We recently stayed at Bluewood Lodges for three nights as part of our honeymoon. While we had an enjoyable time overall and the lodge itself was lovely and peaceful, there were a few disappointing aspects that we feel are worth mentioning.
We had informed the team that this was our honeymoon and decided to treat ourselves to the £85 hamper. Naturally, we expected something a little special - perhaps a complimentary bottle of Prosecco or even a simple touch like rose petals on the bed. Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgement of the occasion at all, which felt like a missed opportunity to make the stay more memorable. To add to that, the hamper seemed to consist mostly of items from the local Co-op, which really didn’t justify the steep price tag.
The hot tub was another letdown. The Bluetooth speaker didn’t work, and despite messaging the 24-hour contact number, no one even read the message- let alone responded-over the course of our entire stay. One side of the jets wasn’t working, and the ones that did work constantly came loose, so we were regularly screwing them back in while trying to relax.
Inside the lodge, a few basic amenities were missing. There was no chopping board, scales, or mixing bowls, which made cooking slightly frustrating. We were also only provided with one towel each for the whole stay-not ideal when you're using both the shower and the hot tub.
The bathroom itself could use some improvement too. The shower head wouldn’t stay upright unless positioned very high, and the sink was so small that it filled up quickly, making basic tasks like brushing teeth or washing your face awkward.
Lastly, although the listing mentioned a gate at the front of the lodge, there wasn’t one. As we had our dogs with us, we had to improvise our own barrier to stop them from wandering off when we were outside.
All in all, we did enjoy our time and the location is beautiful, but there are quite a few small issues that added up and took away from the experience-especially considering the price and the occasion. A few thoughtful touches and better maintenance would...

We stayed Friday to Friday.
Pros Amazing views and sunset views Almost spot loss lodge
Great hot tub
Decor and furniture is high quality and nice
Sheep right out side lodge
Good location
Friendly staff
Good amenities with dishwasher and washing machine
Central heating was amazing and much appreciated when the snow came!
Cons WiFi was non existent, so we couldn't watch Netflix on the TV or work. We're self employed so was a big thing for us. We went through over 30gb of data on our phones to be able to work. When mentioned to the staff via text as reception is only open on Fridays, they said they would restart the WiFi, when we told them it didn't help, they just stopped replying. So no resolution.
Only two bath towels, this was a pain when being in the hot tub and wanting to go straight in the shower but the towels are wet and smelt of chlorine from the hot tub. Either include extra towels or advise customers before hand, we would have bought our own if we knew.
This isn't something that can be changed but an observation. As the hot tub is inset into the decking, the whole lodge hums constantly. Its parictualy bad when sleeping as it comes though the floor and mattress straight into your ear.
Extractor fan in the bathroom was thick with dust, everywhere else was emaculate so seems strange this has been missed for what must be months due to how thick it was.
Mattress is quite hard.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend and come back. Just need to work on the WiFi for...
Read moreWe have just arrived home after a 3 night break. Starting with the positives; the location is perfect and gives easy access to all the places we wanted to visit. The park itself is also nice, quite small and quiet with a good lay out. We stayed in Lodge 9 (Kingham Lodge) and whilst the lodge was nice and spacious it felt rather tired and needed a bit of TLC. The decking area was ok but had several bits of rotten wood as did the facias on the lodge itself, its tried to be patched up but really needs replacing. Inside the lodge there was a large stain on the rug, which didn't look great (again an easy enough fix), the whole lodge felt like it needed a lick of paint and updating a bit. There was a slight musty smell throughout also and whilst I appreciate it was a dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in many dog friendly lodges that smelt clean and fresh! I think carpets in the bedrooms and fabric sofas didn't help, in my experience wood/laminate type flooring and leather sofas with throws (that you can wash) works so much better in pet accommodation. The beds were comfortable enough but the kids beds only had one pillow each that were flat as a pancake! Lastly the hot tub kept having the jets come loose that we kept having to put back into place. All in all it has the ability to be amazing and I am sure other lodges on the site may be a lot better, but we cant help but feel a little disappointed with the...
