TLDR - PURPOSELY POOR SIGNAL, OVERPRICED ROOMS, AND MEDIOCRE BREAKFAST
Premier inn is similar to travelodge in which I always try to avoid.
I stayed in a room on a Tuesday that cost £113.39 which is pretty expensive for what you get, even in today's climate . This included the unlimited breakfast. This is also with a discounted cooperate rate so for most would be more expensive.
The room was clean enough, some dust but nothing unexpected. Clean bathroom, hairdryer ect. No tea or coffee options however can get them from the reception for free so not a big issue.
TV was tiny, not sure why as other premier inns iv'e been too have had pretty decent 40+ inch HD tvs. This one was 25 ish inch and tiny.
Now to be frank, i don't really watch TV, however the signal in premier inns is appalling, which leads to some TV being watched.
On the topic of this, this is my biggest pet peeve with Premier Inn. They provide free WiFi, however it is pretty much unusable. For work, you cant get anything done. For the odd YouTube video and Facebook post, it can almost suffice however will buffer frequently. I had 2 devices, one via EE and one via Vodafone, both of which had almost no signal so the data from these devices couldn't be used.
This is where the Premier Inn scam starts, they purposely keep signal in the hotels awful, and provide a terrible free wifi, to force you to buy premium. This is incredibly unethical and considering the price of the hotel i expect better. Most other chains, and even independent hotels offer a free wifi which is at least comparable to public wifi in places such as Mcdonalds, train stations ect.
I always avoid due to this reason, however it was required for this visit due to budgeting.
The breakfast is unlimited however incredibly poor quality. Microwaved food, eggs included which are always incredibly watery.
Fire alarm also went off at 6 30AM or about 5 mims which was pretty inconvenient however I was already awake so not an issue for me personally at the time.
Friendly staff and free parking are the best things about these hotels overall, however Id avoid this and travelodge at all costs. Go independent its usually cheaper and nicer, or spend abit more and go to the holiday inn. Great WiFi, smart TVs and a much...
Read moreFirst time at this one and after my last stop at Gt Whitcombe, I wondered whether I would have to 'walk 500 miles' to find food on this occasion or perhaps shower outside, as long as it was raining! However I have to say this hotel becomes one of my favourites. Great check-in staff, very friendly and efficient reminding me to pop my vehicle reg' into the parking screen and asking whether I would like to book a time for dinner and what time I required breakfast. The room was clean, a good size with some space in the bathroom too but I'll have to say it again, 'I still wish the bath's were replaced with shower cubicles'. Bed was the usual very comfy item. Moving on to dinner; waited mere seconds to be dealt with and given a table. Plenty of room in the restaurant, good beer, the Moretti was spot-on and my gammon steak appeared just a few minutes after ordering (it seemed); it was cooked to perfection. The bar area is a good size with stools around high tables as well as low tables but could use a few more soft seats (those little round cushion Carver's are damned uncomfortable!). It was a warm night and so was the room and as I live in the country I'm not used to motorway traffic noise so don't open the windows, so I did have a little trouble sleeping but that's my problem. Breakfast next morning was equally good, ranking amongst my best ever Prem' ones. Again, the server was with me within seconds and pointing me to a table and after pointing out the continental area, asking if I wanted time before ordering or order hot food immediately, which is my preferred way. Again it appeared within a few minutes and was really good with an egg that had a runny yoke rather than the white, which is a real treat. The sausage was good with the 'Cobham Armoured' skin nowhere in sight which was a double bonus! Coffee machine filled the mug to a decent level and it was hot. Now here's the thing that made it the best Prem' breakfast I can remember: I popped two slices of bread under the toaster and when they dropped out the bottom they were done exactly how I like them, not anaemic and requiring multiple journey's between the heating elements - if you know, you know! So overall, Worcester J6 has to be one of my best ever visits, probably...
Read moreWe stayed here a few years ago as an over night break on our way to Devon with my parents. That's the reason why we decided to do the same this time, would we recommend it NO would have to be the answer, our room was absolutely boiling hot, temperature control on the wall in the room didn't work so we had no way of altering the room temperature, we could only just get the window to open a tiny little it, which wasn't ideal. When we booked in at reception we were asked if we would like to book evening meal, YES, was our reply. The guy on reception kindly did that for us, later when we went over to the Restaurant we were greeted by a very abrupt young lady, asked what our room number was, which we told her, she then very abruptly told us we were not on her list for booked evening meals, we explained that reception had made the booking for us as we checked in, she hummed and harred for a few minutes, at this point my partner said to her " if there's a problem, we can go elsewhere to eat, " she ignored him and continued grumbling under her breath, he said the same thing to her again, this time she very abruptly said " it's not a problem, I will show you where to sit. " not the most friendly welcome we have had at Premier inn and we have stayed in a couple of them, we ordered food, Haddock in Beer Batter, supposed to be very crispy, it wasn't, it was very soggy, the chips and tartare sauce were nice though. We are planning another trip to Devon later this year and we will not be staying here again, I can only speak as I find, the service wasn't a patch on other Premier inns that we have stayed in. Maybe we were just unlucky that day with staff, but it has put us off using that Premier inn for...
