After checking-in the Manager handed us a list of rules for kids (mine are 13 & 16). If I knew this list excited, I would never have booked a site w them therefore I share w you the list; 1. Watch your kids. Keep them safe. The campground is not a reliable babysitter. We are not responsible for your kids when they are off your site 2. Go over these rules w your children (and their friends) it’s your responsibility that they know them and abide by them 3. No bikes in pavilion or bathhouse 4. NO KIDS IN THE MARINA, no fishing from boat slips unless you have a boat and are using it 5. No swinging from pavilion and bathhouse handrails 6. If your kids walk your dog make sure they are able to use a “clean up bag” 7. Kids must be back at their site by dark. NO (underlined) bikes after dark 8. Above all, camping is a great time to be able to teach your children responsibility, courtesy and respect of other and others property as well as teach them camping etiquette 9. Showers don’t require a fee but make sure the kids don’t use them excessively and be sure younger children are supervised 10. Please don’t vandalize or damage the campground property 11. No pushing or playing rough on the swim platform 12. There is no lifeguard on duty, young children must be supervised 13. NO fishing inside buoys of swimming area.” Our experience: A wrapper fell out of one of the kids pockets and the staffer lectured my son and his friend about littering and said, “I could find a trail of trash that would lead me to your campsite”. My 13 year old son was looking at a flashlight in the camp store that read “try me” so he did prior to buying it she yelled at him saying stop touching them you’ll run the batteries out. Our kids and the family we went with, their kids, made friends with 13 other kids, how much fun is that... darkness fell upon the campsite, every kid on the campground played Man Hunt aka Flashlight Tag... the staffers were patrolling, lecturing the kids to go back to their sites, it’s dark out and said apparently you and your parents didn’t go over the rules. Understandably quiet time is at 10:00pm but this game took place from 8:00 to 9:00pm. I could go on about the Management and hope sharing this will help you make your decision. Needless to say we will NEVER go back or recommend this campingground...
Read moreThis is such a beautiful area of Maine and the campsites although a little tight are ok. Beautiful pavilion and bathrooms are great. However the management and staff are not family friendly. They run it like a jail and follow you around, talk rudely to you and about you to others. During my stay on night one someone came marching down to our site at 10:05 and stated “the quiet time was 10pm and that we can be heard all over the campground. This was our first night and it was not a great start! And you still have three vehicles here.” She then went to someone that was staying with us to yell at them that there dog, shitzu, was being to loud barking. So we were sitting around the fire talking which may have seemed louder due to the quiet time and the dog did bark when someone walked through their campsite. No problem with her asking to quiet down nicely but she berated us. Later the next day staff jumped on my sister walking her dog because she didn’t see a bag for droppings which she had in her pocket. The next day another staffer rode his bike onto our sit to tell us to slow down because of the dust that we created. Granted dirt roads and no rain for 6 days so walking made dust. He stated that if anything happened to his family he would make sure i”it was the last thing we ever did”. Very sad to have this type of attitude to ruin such a beautiful area. Ever car that drove by peered into our site and when we waved just scowled as it appears staff also likes to talk about their dislike for others. They won’t see me back unfortunately and hope you...
Read moreI do NOT think this review will help the owner and staff of this place improve, given multiple people have complained across the years about the same thing, and yet, it seems like similar complaints keeps coming up in their reviews, time and again (see the other negative reviews).||||The owner & staff are extremely rude & berating to the point of sounding like characters from a television parody show. They have several rules that they watch you like a hawk for, to detect if you come close to breaking them, and have no problem being preemptively rude to you, even if you haven't really broken them. My issue is not about them enforcing their rules. It is about their choice of words with their customers, how heavy-handed they are, and how easily triggered they are by minor "infractions" of their customers, some of which are not even in their "rule book", nor adhere to common sense.||||They are either on a power trip or have poor emotional regulation or hold deep frustrations they feel they need to vent on customers or take their jobs too seriously or have a poor understanding about customer service and about what a campground fundamentally is - a place for people to relax. This campground is definitely not kids or pet friendly.||||Also, the campground is only fun for people who do not mind being packed like sardines right next to each other. Freedom and wilderness loving people,...
