We had the very good fortune to stay at Hartzell House in September. So many tiny details added up to a wonderful visit. First of all, Melissa and Robert are truly lovely people who have very obviously dedicated themselves to providing an exceptional experience for their guests. The inn sits on a quiet street that made for a peaceful night's sleep and an enjoyable sunrise walk down to the nearby cemetery where we found gravestones of the Hartzell family as we were enveloped in the rather mystical morning mist. We loved the numerous seating areas around the inn, both inside and out. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard garden that exuded a Zen vibe. Additionally, Melissa and Robert offered an unexpected hospitality that we have not often encountered at the many B&Bs that we have visited over the past few decades. I already mentioned the ample seating areas that allowed for privacy, but they paid attention to so many other thoughtful details. First, we were treated to wine and beer upon our arrival. There were also freshly baked chocolate chip cookies which were heavenly. When he discovered that my husband and I are very early risers, Robert offered to have a pot of coffee ready for us at 5 a.m. He provided 1/2 and 1/2 in a small refrigerator right outside our suite that was set aside just for our use. There were two bottles of freshly filtered water in the refrigerator as well as ample glassware for our use. Knowing that people have different preferences for breakfast, Melissa and Robert offer each guest a choice of a savory or sweet breakfast, and my husband, daughter, and I all agreed that the meals were fantastic. If we find ourselves back in Addison again, we will most definitely stay at Hartzell House. In fact, it's very possible that we will travel to Addison again just so we can enjoy another visit to...
Read moreMy wife and I just spent a night at Hartzell House and we wish we could have stayed longer!! This was a stopover on our trip back home to Charlotte, NC from a week visiting with our son in upstate NY (and for a visit to FallingWater). The entire property is just lovely. The garden landscaping is beautiful. The house itself is gorgeous with common areas that are comfortable and beautifully & impeccably decorated. We booked the Patriot room for our stay. It was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Knowing we would arrive after a 5 hour drive, we also booked dinner at Hartzell House...and that was a great decision! Coffee, tea and freshly baked cookies greeted us upon arrival and before dinner we opened a bottle of wine and relaxed in the screened-in room just off our room. We ate dinner in the great room and the entire three course meal (salad, chicken piccata, cake and ice cream!) was delicious. It was like dining at your own private restaurant. We were also thrilled with our early morning breakfast. But over and above how much we loved the house and food, the owners are what put this place over the top for us. Melissa and Robert are gracious hosts and lovely people. We honestly enjoyed our time talking with them as much as any other part of our stay. They are 100% attentive to the needs of their guests and the love they have for what they do reverberates through the entire property. We have already told them we are coming back and our next trip will be longer. This way we can better enjoy the property and the hosts! If you are ever visiting the area (for Frank Lloyd Wright House, GAP Trail, enjoying the mountains or just to relax) you MUST stay at Hartzell House. I promise that you will not be disappointed. (pro tip: buy a bottle of their...
Read moreMy husband & I have just returned from a wonderful, relaxing stay @ Hartzell House.Everything was perfect from start to finish for our 2 day get away. Melissa & Robert are such welcoming hosts to their beautiful B&B. We loved staying in the Patriot Suite with it's King sized bed and huge bathroom. Every amenity was so well thought out for us. Snacks in the room, a mini fridge, microwave and wonderful filtered water right outside our door. We toured Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob while staying here which is a must if you are in the area. Now, the food from homemade treats, an abundance of tea selection and coffee available everyday was terrific! The breakfast each morning was served at our table looking over the beautiful gardens. Robert & Melissa each prepare a part of the meal & serve it with such pride every day. We had dinner both evenings in the comfort of their patio room outside our door. The cheese & fruit plate with all of the delicious side dishes was a meal in itself. We had wine and beer with dinner as well. This add on feature is truly a meal in itself. Afterwards we enjoyed relaxing and playing a few games of pool in the dining area. The candlelight dinner for two on our 2nd night was amazing as well. It was a 5 course offering with drinks on my Husbands birthday. Included were a prosciutto & carrot appetizer, organic tossed salad, a pasta course, roasted chicken with an abundance of fresh vegetables and chocolate lava cake & Italian pastry for dessert! Do not hesitate to book your stay here and the 2 amazing meals that you can add on. We are already planning our Fall visit to see the colors and enjoy Roberts Pizza night dinner for two! Hartzell house is the place to stay in the Laurel...
