We enjoyed our stay at the Twin View Barn last week and think that the website gives an accurate idea of what to expect. |It’s a quiet place with beautiful views and is comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and has good appliances and loads of cutlery, plates, glasses and kitchen tools but you will need to bring all the food, spices and condiments you need for cooking meals as beyond salt and pepper there is nothing. I enjoyed the stereo system which has a lightning adapter so you can easily play music from your Apple device through the awesome large retro speakers. The Monkees never sounded so good ! |Guests should remember that the Barn is uninsulated and unheated so you will soon feel any temperature fluctuations that the VT weather throws at you. During our four night stay the overnight low temps varied from mid-forties to around seventy and we certainly noticed the difference ! The night it was in the forties felt very chilly although there are extra blankets and comforters. So for clothing while here a layering strategy makes sense for sleepwear as well as outdoor attire .|The towns of Vergennes and Middlebury are 20-30 mins drive away and both have supermarkets, pharmacies etc. Middlebury also has a very good Co-op . We ate at The Black Sheep Bistro in Vergennes and Starry Night Cafe in Ferrisburgh and enjoyed both. The Starry Night Cafe is actually much more than a cafe and almost falls into the ‘fine dining’ category. As for activities there are walks at nearby Snake Mountain and the State Park at Button Bay. We also recommend a visit to The John Strong Mansion which dates back to 1796. It is near the bridge to NY State at Chimney Point. During the season it is open 11am - 3pm on weekends. It abuts a small State Park and campground with frontage on to Lake Champlain. Fruit picking is available at several nearby farms. We got the tail end of the strawberry and raspberry season.|All in all the Barn is a great place to kick back and relax.Enjoy the property and the beautiful surrounding area which is pleasantly off the beaten track. If you need anything you will find Jeff and his wife to be very helpful hosts....
Read moreMy partner and I had a lovely time at Whitford House. The house was beautifully decorated as a classic New England home. The bed was very comfortable and the water ran hot with good water pressure. The tub is elegant and invites you for a long deep relaxing soak. The house is located nearby numerous delicious restaurants (20 minute) like Tourterelle, the Bobcat, and Antidote. We enjoyed a speculator viewing of the 2024 Eclipse in the vast scenic farm fields of our backyard! We were surrounded by nature, and Jeff the host kindly took us on a quick walk to a cattail-lined pond where the red-winged black birds were darting about. Jeff was a very helpful, attentive, and communicative host! He helped us decide on which mountain would be the best to visit given the late session; we landed on snowboarding at Sugarbush which was 50 minutes away. Jeff very kindly offered us a continental breakfast, which was completely unexpected but a tasty welcome! I look forward to coming back soon and picking up where we left off in the picturesque...
Read moreI spent ten days at Twin View Barn and could not have had a better experience. You really can’t convey just how breathtaking the view is, especially at dusk, and the high ceiling and generous natural light mean you’ll never feel cooped up. Jeff is smart as a whip and extremely competent, which means the barn has been thought through with care. The lighting has been designed with precision, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the sound system adds the perfect final touch, leaving you feeling at home. Jeff strikes a balance between respecting your privacy and making himself available to you, and you will likely come away with a clear sense of someone who actively cares and does his best to make your experience special. It’s not easy to install air conditioning in an uninsulated barn with vaulting ceilings, but figure that out (which, apparently, Jeff is doing) and you’ve got a six-star-out-of-five-star experience here. Oh, and did I mention Addison County’s...
