Alaska Rainbow Lodge is by far the best fishing trip I have ever had! My husband had been once before prior to bringing me, and after all the wonderful things he mentioned about this place I just had to try it out. The experience exceeded everything I could imagine this trip being. The lodge is amazing with all it's charm and coziness. Chip and Amanda, the owners, truly care about their staff and their customers. They are always around to chat with you about your day, the weather, or anything you might need to make your stay more enjoyable. In fact, my waders had a leak in them the very 1st day of our fishing trip, but within 5 minutes from getting back to the lodge someone was handing me a pair of waders to use. This lodge provides everything you would need for your fishing trip from fishing equipment to fishing waders which is nice if you don't want to lug all this stuff from home. It's especially great in case you break, damage or need gear or fishing attire. Being the only woman fishing amongst all the men, the staff and owners, and of course the fishermen made me feel as one of the guys. There is a personal chef on staff that cooks amazing meals and not just something to feed you, but food you would be served from a 5-star restaurant. Absolutely delicious! You more than likely will go home gaining a few pounds... From steaks, and prime rib, to a seafood extravaganza toped off with Alaska King Crab legs. At breakfast there is a special of the day along with serve to order items. For lunch no matter what the weather conditions while fishing your guide will cook and serve a hot homemade soup with warm sandwiches. An amazing display of hors d'oeuvres greets you upon your arrival back to the lodge that could fill you up before you even make it to the 3 course dinner. Just absolutely crazy yummy! The staff is hands on some of the nicest and most attentive people you could ask for. They seem to read your mind and are their for you at a moments notice.|| AND, as for the fishing.... it was everything I had hoped it would be. We went in September so the focus was on the trout and if you want to catch big trout this is the place to go. They are such a beautiful fish and so much fun to catch! I'm not a fly fisherman, so I used a spinning rod and reel but it didn't keep me from catching fish. Each day we picked a different location to fly out to and each location was special and unique in its own way. I learned quickly that at "the flats" you have an opportunity to catch big fish! I caught trout that were 22 in, 26 in, 28 in, and ended the day with a 25.5, and those are just the ones we measured... My husband caught lots of trout as well, but this trip I out fished him - I believe you call it "beginners luck". We fished on a river where the bears came out to join you. While you're fishing they are out fishing too. It was so amazing to be fishing while the bears come and go around you. No need to fear as they aren't interested in people and your trusty guides keep you at a safe distance. But, the fishing along this river was amazing. || And, having the snow covered mountains surrounding you makes this an amazing location to fish. You do fly in and out of the lodge every day to your fishing spot and the views from the float planes are absolutely breathtaking. All 3 pilots are trust worthy, and safety is their top priority. But, again you are reading this review for the fish and while the weather in Alaska can be unpredictable the fish are not. Every place/day we fished we caught beautiful trout. We got skunked one day as the fish just weren't there, but we made up for it the next day, and the next day, and the next day!!!!!! As for the fishing guides - you will not meet another group of guys that are so attentive to their customers or have the love of fishing more than these guys. They truly make their priority be you and your fishing. While we did tend to use Eric most of the time - whom I do highly recommend... Any one of the guides would be amazing to have. Seriously, they absolutely love what they do and enjoy helping you catch a fish of lifetime. If you want to have an experience of a lifetime I would highly suggest booking a trip to Alaska...

We visited the Alaska Rainbow Lodge this past week. The whole crew at the lodge were friendly, helpful and caring. We were welcomed with beautiful smiles, refreshing drinks, and good snacks. This was shortly followed by a fly fishing class. We also tried on the brand new waders we rented from the lodge, having the help of the guides choosing the right gear size made our gear fit confortable for our fishing adventures. Erika, the operation manager, welcomed us and guided us though getting our fishing licenses and anything we may need for our stay. Our welcoming dinner was spectacular and our head guide Jad met us to give us directions and advice for the next day. Gavin, John, Ray, Erick, Tom and Mike were all profesional and outstanding guides. The lodge is so cozy, every time we came back from our day on the water it felt like home, the kitchen crew made sure we had plenty of delicious snacks to hold us for dinner. Chef Jerry made a delicious gourmet meal every night including amazing desserts and Val, Michelle, Marissa, Ashley and Soleil always made sure we had great drinks. They also woke us up with fresh orange juice and coffee. The places we visited in our fishing adventures were spectacular, crystal clear waters, the guides served us a hot meal by the lake or the river every day. We had so much fun catching and releasing big lakers and rainbow trouts and we also fished for king salmon so we could bring the catch home to Costa Rica with us. They took us fly fishing at the Brooks River and that was so incredible to catch salmon and trout at this famous location. Mike was very patient with us on learning how to cast and we were successful at it even thought we had never done fly fishing before. We got to see a BIG Bear walking on the waterfall trail and a lot of wildlife, birds and rabbits and a really big moose taking a swim at the river. Salmon jumping in the Brooks waterfall was so special to watch, like a National Geographic movie right in front of our eyes. We got to see a big herd of caribou from one of our flights. The pilots (Nate and Chip) and the staff at the lodge always made sure we were confortable and enjoying our time. The beds were so comfortable and the shades in the room were great to get a perfect rest to do it again every morning. Everyday was a beautiful adventure and we can't wait to go back with more family...

I was traveling up river with my buddy and our skiff’s engine was acting up. We stopped at the Rainbow dock and imposed on them to help us. It was dinner time but Nathan the mechanic and Olly the pilot helped grind our prop smooth again. Well we took off, but the engine was still not giving power and we couldn’t get the boat on plane. They chased us down in their skiff and we pulled over and they tore our whole engine apart. It took them a while, but they found the temp sensor was the problem. Unplugged it and the engine was great again. If not for those guys giving up a chunk of their evening, we would have been in real trouble. We’re very appreciative to them.

ARL is THE best fly fishing lodge in AK! The lodge is conveniently located near some of the finest rainbow trout/salmon fishing in the world. But, it's not just the fishing that sets this lodge apart from all the others ....the gourmet food, comfortable accommodations, friendly staff, experienced guides, etc., are all exceptional. The 3 de Havilland Beaver float planes are immaculately maintained and the pilots are the best you'll find. I've stayed at other AK fishing lodges in the past, but ARL outshines them all.
