I just got back from a trip to Alaska where I stayed at Big Sky Charters & Fish Camp with 6 other adults and 5 children. We had 2 cabins, the Hawaiin Hut and Cabin # 6. It was such an authentic Alaskan experience, I couldn't imagine a better place to stay and would highly recommend this place. The family that runs Fishcamp is awesome - they are so helpful with planning trips and activities, making the stay unforgettable. They assisted with planning fly out trips for fishing and bear watching, halibut fishing, and other super fun activities (thank you, Ella!!!!)
The coolest thing about Fishcamp is the location - right on the Kenai River with plenty of dock space to fish with your group and areas to get in the water (thankfully they had waiters I could borrow) to catch your salmon or trout. It's also not too far from a Three Bears Alaska store if you need anything and there is a pizza place pretty close that you could walk to if you wanted.
The beds in the cabin were very comfortable, 2 queens in the bedrooms downstairs and 2 sets of bunkbeds in the loft with an extra "Harry Potter" room. There were also 2 cots which we didn't need to use. Having a bathroom in the Hawaiian Hut was really nice, but the bath house is also really close by and well kept.
I also really appreciated how they processed our fish on the trip, the vacuum sealed bags with smaller cuts are just perfect and they packed the boxes to be just under 50 lbs. Everything in my 2 boxes was still frozen upon arrival home (~30 hours from departing Fishcamp and I did NOT use the Anchorage airport fish storage, but others in my group leaving later did). I don't think there is any fresher fish on this planet than what's in my freezer right now.
All in all, a great time at Fishcamp and I would absolutely re-do this trip again and I don't think I would...
Read moreOur trip with this charter company was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, everything was thoughtfully organized and executed with care. The fishing trips were top-tier — we were matched with experienced, personable guides who put us right on the fish and made every outing both productive and fun.
The accommodations exceeded our expectations: clean, cozy, and clearly well taken care of. The shower had great hot water the entire time — a small detail, but one that made a big difference after long days on the water. After a full day of fishing, it was the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Ella was an absolute gem — warm, professional, and always going the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.
Our final river trip was guided by her dad, Joe, and it was hands-down one of the best days we've had on the water. His expertise, patience, and passion for what he does really showed — we couldn’t have asked for a better guide.
If you're looking for an outstanding fishing adventure with people who truly care, look no further. We’ll...
Read moreBig Sky was amazing! What makes it amazing? The people. Ella and her crew were everything you'd want from a host. Responsive to questions, communicative with the goings on and how the camp functions, always willing to help no matter what their job was at camp and no matter when you asked them. They were on top of it in seconds. The camp has everything you could ask for and more. All the equipment you need, the resources and people to make your trip a success, the knowledge to get you what you need, when you need it and how you need it even if they don't offer it. Our guides both sea and river were amazing. Adam, Steve, and Keith made sure we got our limits every time we were with them, and even took us on little side adventures just to enjoy the fishing and Alaskan scenery. There are a ton of options in this area, but I'd be willing to bet you won't find one with as great of people or service.
Thank you to everyone at Big Sky for making our trip a fantastic and...
