We stayed at Bird Creek campground for a day hike, enjoyed its picnic tables and a very easy access to the paved path.||The campground is right near the busy Seward Highway. Although screened from view, you can hear cars going by. This could be a plus for people who want easy access to the gas station and some attractions nearby. The BEST thing about Bird Creek Campground, however, is the access to a paved trail accessible to anyone. If you're a runner looking for a long workout this path is much safer than others during "bear season" and offers incredible views. We chose a South hike on the path, sampled wild sweet raspberries and a few high bush cranberries (skip the cranberries- not ripe yet). We saw bald eagles, ravens playing along a beach, numerous wild flowers and too many birds to count. Also ran into a lot of bear scat, so keep in mind that this is still Alaska. This is a good camping spot if you want a very short drive from Anchorage and are not looking for a wilderness experiences. You get a "taste" of ALaska, and there are great fishing streams nearby, so it depends upon what you are...
Read moreI can really only comment on this as a fishing spot / walking area because we didn't camp here. We stopped to stretch our legs and use the facilities on a drive from anchorage down the Seward highway to homer. ||It's outhouses, but they were clean enough as far as outhouses go. ||The walking paths and area down by the bridge and along the river were just GORGEOUS though and absolutely worth a stop. Great informational signs up at the little overlook platform by the bridge, and man, did it look like a great little fishing spot! ||We saw lots of moose tracks and all kinds of birds, so wildlife is all around. ||I'll just have to let the pictures speak for themselves. This is a wonderful little area to stretch your legs, enjoy nature,...
Read moreBird Creek is a tiny slice of paradise. Warmer in the winter that anchorage and cooler in the summer. There is a beautiful campground with a bike trail running beside it. It's at the edge of the northernmost rainforest in America. There are a ton of activities that I like to do like gold panning, mushroom hunting, camping and biking. Tourist tip: when looking for the bird creek trail head avoid driving through the residential area. They have street signs there but they are in no way public streets. All streets there are privately owned. Your looking for a road called Konikson. It's one block past the gas station heading south. I'm always available to answer questions. Just post them here and I'll get to them...
