Camp in the clouds at Blueberry Lake State Recreation Site!
My wife and I reserved campsite #10 for one night. We disconnected the trailer and spent the day visiting Valdez. We returned in the early afternoon and watched the clouds float over the mountains.
The flies here (may) eat you alive, so bring netting. The campground was very quiet with some campers biking and walking on the road. The temperatures were comfortable, but you’ll want to keep the rain jacket handy for the sudden sprinkles.
The road in the campground is in good condition, so don’t worry about large pot holes or giant cracks. You’ll want to slow down before you reach dips, but otherwise the road is easy to navigate.
If you’re looking for a dry campsite with privacy and a fantastic view of the mountains then you’ll want to reserve campsite #10.

Read moreI can’t say enough how stunning Blueberry Lake Campground is! We stayed just one night, but it felt like a peaceful little slice of heaven. The best part? We were the only campers there, so it felt like our own private retreat surrounded by breathtaking mountain views and the calm alpine lake. The scenery alone makes it worth the trip.
I really wish we’d stayed longer instead of heading off to the nightmare campground we ended up at in Glenallen. Blueberry Lake’s quiet, natural beauty and solitude made our short stay feel so refreshing and special. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with incredible views and minimal crowds, this is absolutely the place to be.
Just a heads up: the facilities are basic but clean, and it’s a dry campground with no hookups. Bring what you need, and prepare for some chillier nights at elevation.
Highly recommend! I’m already planning my...
Read moreThis is a nice campground just half an hour outside of Valdez. The state recreation site lists no size restrictions for RVs, but the tight corners of the campground loop make it difficult for larger units (25+ feet). There are some sights that backing a trailer into would be difficult or impossible for larger rigs. It's a one way loop, but with a little planning you can stop traffic to go the other way and get into your site a little easier. Great fishing in the lakes, although the best spots are across the lake near the rock wall, bring a boat to get the big fish! Great hiking and berry picking. This is a great spot for a quick escape from Valdez, or as a stop off before descending Keystone Canyon into Valdez. No electricity. No sewage dump. No trash dumpsters...
