New rooms are absolutely amazing! Beds are extremely comfortable, bathroom is nice, and there are plenty of outlets in convenient places to charge all of your devices. My family and I stayed in the room with 1 King and 1 Twin bed, the king side of the room had a small closet, and a Roku tv (plus I'm sure a dresser or 2 that I'm forgetting). The twin side of the room had an area with a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. There was also a dresser in the room. I really like the placement of the bedside lamp, with a built in area to rest your phone, book, etc. at night.||||I really wish we had taken pictures because the rooms are extremely nice.||||There is a bar/lounge located on the other side of the lodge so you can grab a drink or a bite to eat. If you drive down the Denali Highway, it's a great place for camping/hunting. If you drive North on the Parks Highway for about 20ish minutes you'll come to the entrance to Denali National Park, totally recommend checking it out in the Summer, very beautiful and lots of wildlife. If you continue North about 10 more minutes there are lots of gift shops, restaurants, a liquor store, etc. Very nice place. I don't know what's open due to the Coronavirus, it seemed like some places were closed but there were some places open.||||The Alaska Railroad does run through (about 200 feet away from the lodge is the railroad tracks) usually very often in the summer, so if you're a light sleeper I could see that being an issue but for me, I don't mind the train so I'm still giving them 5 stars as it's not really anything the lodge management can...
Read moreFirst need to remember that you are in the middle of Alaska. Second you are about 25 miles south of the entrance to Denali National Park. ||||We booked this location over the internet. When we arrived we were not sure that we were in the right place, but there were many hand written signs that directed us to the proper door to enter to get out room. We walked in and no one was there. We walked in to the bar area and finally found the manager. She is a jack of all trades and was checking on things in the kitchen. She showed us our room, which was large. All of the rooms were new and they were clean, bright and fresh. The bed was really comfortable. The room also had a TV, small refrigerator and a microwave. The only down side is that the room did not have room darkening shades and since this was the middle of summer the room never really got dark. Be sure to bring your eye covers so that you can get some sleep. Also the Lodge is located near the Alaska Railroad tracks and freight trains do go by in the middle of the night.||||Between Denali and Cantwell there are a few dining options, but it was easier to eat at the Lodge. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and all of the food we had was very good and good sized portions||||If you sit at the bar you are bound to run in to some "locals" and you will end up having some very interesting conversations and find out how they all found their way to Alaska.||||The Cantwell Lodge was a fun little place to stay...
Read moreOn the plus side: bedroom good size, bed comfortable, bathroom new and all spotlessly clean. Has ok cafe on site for evening meal ( we ate there once, but it’s only 15 minutes drive to Carlo Creek where there are 3 options- the Cafe was excellent there)|On the minus side: outside tatty, could not get in to check in as both front door and office locked (it was 2.45, Booking.com confirmation said checking from 12...). On point of giving up and looking elsewhere when we found unlocked motel room gave us access to interior, where lady doing laundry let us into our room.. still everything else shut/locked when we went out at 4. New owner there when we got back in evening, clearly very harassed: her 2 staff were great but she a) needs to sort outside so it’s clear it’s operating and b) be there!! No one around when we checked out- left key on desk. If she’s running a motel, needs to get her act together.|Alaska railroad runs within feet- be warned of night...
