My 10 year old grandson and I wanted a place to stay in Nikiski while looking over some property I own. (I live in Utah.) Daniel's Lake Lodge exceeded my expectations in every way. Our room with two twin beds was in the main building and I enjoyed the huge soaker tub in our private bath. Karen and Jim were both helpful and friendly. Jim built a big fire in the firepit so we could roast hot dogs and make s'mores. He and a very friendly guest helped my grandson achieve the desire of his heart: going fishing for trout. They got the poles ready, strung the lines and tied on the hooks. The guest even taught him how to cast and reel in. (I know nothing about fishing.) We took the paddle boat out easily twice and enjoyed the beauty and solitude of the lake. He loved feeding the ducks and geese; I enjoyed sitting by the water in the quiet hours before breakfast. Breakfast was easily and congenially made with the other 3 guests at the big house. If you really want your morning privacy I would advise getting a cabin, but we enjoyed the casual exchange...no pressures just quiet visiting while we each cooked our own food. (Milk, juice, coffee, eggs, reindeer sausage, toast, frozen waffles, cold cereal, oatmeal.) My grandson and I both hated to leave after one night. We could happily have stayed longer. (And it was a steal at $135.00) It's only about 5 minutes from the main road in Nikiski but felt...
Read moreWe stayed a week in the Forget-Me-Not cabin. Karen and Jim own the property and make you feel like family when you're there. The cabin was very clean and had pots, pans, silverware, towels and just about everything else you'd need to be comfortable. The beds in both rooms were comfy and the bedding was nice and warm.||If there was anything you might need, a quick text to Karen and she'd send Jim running over with the supplies! :-) They have an aluminum canoe and a rowboat (which comfortable seats 3) for lake excursions (the boat motor was not working when we were there). However, it's an easy row/paddle out to the best fishing spots, so we really didn't need the motor. Jim and Karen had extra fishing poles and nets, so we didn't have to pack ours (we brought our own tackle). ||We fished Daniels Lake every day. There wasn't one day where we didn't catch fish (ALL rainbow trout). The lake is not stocked (the public access is...inaccessible), but there is a HEALTHY population of rainbow trout; most ranging from 13-15 inches. Between the fish, the loons, the moose and the bald eagles...you're in Alaskan heaven!||So, would we stay here again? Absolutely, without question. If you have the opportunity to stay here, book it! Wonderful location. Wonderful hosts....
