We are fairly new to camping and I check the website for information and rules not seeing anything about generators listed on it as being prohibited and I called and they said it was okay to bring with us never saying there were rules on use. We we arrived to the campground, we sat 15 min waiting for someone to show up to check us in. Giving up we drove around till we found the manager place and he was not there either time we went. A fellow camper told us to just go to our reserved place, which would have been fine accept we had zero cell service to look up that information in emails from months ago. Finally we get to our spot still not having heard a word from the manager or anyone about how to check in. We camped out three days and the second night (our last there) the manager shows up pounding on our door at 11 pm and was so scary and rude it upset me so much I definitely didn’t feel safe after the encounter at all. He shoved a piece of paper in my husbands face and yells read number eight but took it away before he could even have read it and walks off yelling “now”. We have never encountered someone so rude and aggressive before and if there is a list of rules they need to be given to us at the check in so we know what to follow. Turns out we were not suppose to use a generator after 11 but nothing is said on websites nor when I called to ask before coming. I have a small child (3) and it’s cold at night in the camper and he needed heat so he didn’t get sick. He is medically fragile and can not handle extreme changes in temperature and that is why we bought a camper and generator so we could still travel with him. The manager didn’t even give my husband a chance to explain this to him or anything just shoved the paper in his face and yelled now as he walked off. All night I was terrified he would come back and do something else or start another confrontation. This was just a very volatile situation that he put us in with a small child there which he woke up pounding on the door so late. I will never be comfortable staying there again and it’s sad because we have more reserved spots for the summer season but will be finding a new place. He put our son’s health in danger and our safety at risk by his actions and we had no way to call for help had we needed it because of no...
Read moreThe Russian River Campground located in Cooper Landing on the Kenai Peninsula is a great place to spend some time. Reservations are needed if you want to make sure you have a spot. They have several loops with multiple spots for RV’s, both pull through or back in. Each spot has a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring. Additionally there are a day use parking areas available if you are just there for the day. The Russian River is world renown for it’s salmon fishing as well as trout fishing. The confluence of the Russian and Kenai rivers is a premier fishery flocked to by avid fishermen from all over the world. But beware, there are a lot of Brown bears that call those stream banks home so be BEAR AWARE. It’s legal to carry a firearm as well as bear spray and I recommend you carry what is most comfortable to you. They tend to stick to the river banks but do wander into the camping areas as well. There are trails along the riverbank with numerous access points to the river for fishing. Also there is a trail that heads upstream to the Russian River Falls where you can watch the salmon jumping the falls. The campgrounds and surrounding areas are full of wild berries and many varieties of mushrooms (some edible,...
Read moreThis is a short 2-3 hour drive from Anchorage. The drive down is beautiful. You can stop in Whittier and take a glacier cruise. The Alaskan wildlife center is on the way as well. We rented an RV and camped. The park does not have hook ups so you will use the generator for 120v it was very peaceful and Scenic is an understatement. Fishing was slow but we hooked and fought Silvers all four days we were there. You can walk to the river and cross it from the campground. If that’s too much for you to do you can go a mile down the road and there is a pay ferry and paid parking. A little expensive but worth it if your unsure of the cold river crossing up the Russian at the campground. |We saw several Black Bears on the Russian River one Mama with two cubs. That will certainly get your undivided attention. Also had a large male walk up to the river all within less than 100 feet of us. Bald Eagles we’re there. On the ride down we saw a mother moose and a calf. This was a very memorable trip. Gorgeous and 18-20 hours a day of sun...
