Thank you Terry, Angie, and your family/employees for a wonderful stay at Salmon Catcher Lodge in mid-June, 2020. First off, the accommodations were spotless. Our room was neat, clean, the kitchen was fully furnished with a gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, blender, coffee maker, toaster, utensils, cookware, etc. And the bed was VERY comfortable. Because we did not sign up for the meal plan, we bought all of our groceries and supplies at Fred Meyer down in Soldotna and cooked our own breakfast and packed our own lunches each day. Then we hit St. Elias Brewery (our favorite) and/or Pizza Boys, another great spot for food and brew. Soldotna has a few great restaurants, so I recommend giving them all a try.
Because this is the year of COVID, our original trip, planned for February, had to be delayed. Terry was great about rolling with the punches and didn't give me any grief for rebooking at a later date and he didn't charge me anything extra. It was unclear up until the last minute whether or not I'd be able to make the trip work, and Terry assured me that everything would be fine. It all worked out great and I'm so thankful that we were able to make a trip work out that I had been planning for over a year with my 13 year-old son despite the COVID testing, flight arrangements, and everything else that could seemingly become a hurdle.
You honestly only need to bring a carry-on with enough changes of clothing to last the week. Terry has all the waders, rods, nets, and gear you need (you will have to buy some tackle). Bring warm clothing and rain gear... You'll need it. I learned the weather in Alaska changes hourly.
Terry has the connection with a lot of great guides. We fished the Kasilof, the Kenai, and we spent a couple days fishing out of Ninilchuck out on the Cook Inlet for Halibut. We came home with about 135lbs of fish, so the trip was an absolute success! Terry and Angie will process, freeze, and pack the fish for you. I only paid $39 to get all the fish home on Delta due to my status on that airline.
I'm already hoping I can make another trip up that way. If so, I will absolutely stay at Salmon Catcher Lodge and request that I go out again with some of the same guides we went out with this...
Read moreI cannot rave enough about our experience at Salmon Cstcher Lodge. I brought my son for his graduation gift and we were treated like royalty from beginning to end. Long before we arrived, anytime I had questions, I was answered quickly and as if I was the only person or thing that Manddi had to deal with for the day and by the time we arrived, I felt like I was meeting a long lost family member or members, because everyone wanted to greet us and share in our excitement. The cabins are so authentically beautiful and well maintained plus they went above and beyond to accommodate anything needed. The food was amazing and tailored to our specific likes and dietary needs. I loved that Gloria and Justin ( the owners) were seen all day working right alongside of everyone and would join us each evening for dinner and cocktails to inquire about our day. The guides were incredible and also would help us obtain the appropriate gear that we needed to fish ourselves.( which was provided by the lodge) We never felt like a tourist our entire time, more like family and half of the staff came together upon checking out to say goodbye with genuine hugs, love and so much more( the other staff members were taking other people out for their excursions). I was even asked to call when we got home safely. Our fish was packaged with pristine care and attention. This is definitely a place that is person focused and goes above and beyond with each single step to ensure that you have the BEST possible experience. I would recommend them 15 out of 10. No request seemed unattainable nor an inconvenience. Salmon Catcher Lodge definitely superseded anything that I was expecting and would encourage everyone ( especially someone's 1st time to Alaska) to go and experience their phenomenal hospitality, professionalism and great attention to details so that it gives the opportunity to enjoy your time in Alaska, without any worry. There is something to be said about no worries while on vacation. Certainly...
Read moreThe Salmon Catcher Lodge exceeded all of our expectations! Justin & Gloria have really built something special, the entire staff is amazing. We really felt like part of their family while we were staying. The kitchen staff & food was amazing and went above and beyond accommodate one of our party's dietary preferences.
The drive to the lodge from Anchorage is incredible with something new to look at the entire way through, we were spotting bald eagles & mountain goats along the way.
Our first day we went out on a drift boat on the Kasilof guided by Aren. Aren made the whole experience super fun. We were a group that didn't really know what we were doing and Aren made sure we all had a chance to catch some Salmon!
Day two we headed to Ninilchik where we launched for our Halibut charter. Our captain and deck hand did a great job making sure we all limited out with halibut within a few hours.
On our third day we had originally planned to do some exploring and touring on our own but we had so much fun fishing we asked about fishing again. Without skipping a beat, Manddi gave us the option to either do another guided drift boat trip or stick with our original plan. We decided we were a bit too tired for an early morning trip and decided to try our hand at fishing alone that day (using extra gear the lodge provided) and caught two more salmon.
As the planner of this trip I spent countless hours researching pricing, accommodations, and reading reviews and without a doubt Salmon Catcher Lodge lives up to the hype and exceeded our expectations. They had some of the best pricing I could find and provided a top tier experience. The spa & sauna were a really nice treat after a hard day of fishing!
This was a boys trip but I will without a doubt be coming back and be bringing my wife along for the next trip.
Thank you Justin, Gloria & Family and the entire Salmon Catcher Lodge crew for making our first trip to Alaska on we will...
