This is a little hard to give a numerical rating. I attended another sportsman lodge, too, that was slightly different.
If you come for scenery and bears that are "tame" - at least used to humans - this is the place to do so. You will probably get some good shots and not need a high-priced super telephoto lens. The bears can often be seen in the meadow/wetland across the road from the cabins, so you need not travel far to see them.
But remember, the bears, while tolerate of human, are not the cute cuddly things that Disney would portray. The guides will keep the bears safe from dumb humans - and you safe from a mama bear who might think that you are harming her cubs.
The food was very good. You won't feel like you are eating rustic food around a campfire or at McDonald's.
The cabins are each unique. They're more pleasant than rusic. More space than a Motel 6 and probably more comfortable, too.
I can't attest to their fishing option.
The other lodge I visited, the bears were more wild, which can be more interesting, but that...
Read moreWe spent 5 nights at the Salmon Creek Lodge..... it is a fantastic place!!! The bear watching is a unique experience. We saw mother bears with 2 and 3 cubs. The pictures we took were fabulous. We visited during the salmon run and did fly fishing in the small rivers near the lodge and caught salmon that were running up the river! It was fantastic. We also took a boat to an island were there were thousands of Puffin birds. It was amazing to watch them fly around, feed and nest. David and Joanne own the lodge and are fantastic people. We had outstanding guides who showed us everything according our pace. They were extremely knowledgeable and fun to be with. Dining with all of the guest from across the country and world added to our experience greatly. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and cute. This was definitely the highlight of our vacation! Hard to book this place since it is in such demand. Keep trying and it is definitely...
Read moreMy husband and I had a wonderful 5-night stay at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge. Our guide (Rob) was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and accommodating. He put us in the perfect spot, anticipating the movement of bears, for pictures and videos. He made us feel perfectly safe walking in the meadows while pointing out the wonderful sights. All of our wish list of activities was granted, which is not easy given the unpredictability of the Alaskan weather. The boat ride to Duck Island to see the puffins was included in the price. The food (which is also included) was 5-star restaurant quality. Every meal was delicious. We were happy to have a departure weather delay so we could have an additional lunch and opportunity to admire the two bears that visited the lodge that morning. We really enjoyed riding in the carts to find bears and other critters (such as bald eagles, river otters, spruce grouse, etc.). We were blessed in finding bears every...
