We arrived in early September. As this is located at the "end of the road" you can arrive either via the Denali Camper Bus or via Kantishna Air. We decided to ride the Camper Bus in and fly out. Loved doing both. Both were great ways to experience Denali. Our pilot, Hawk gave a nice tour and geology lesson of the Alaskan range and Denali.||||We were in Room 6. Bed and bedding was great. There are great views from the room. The lodge looks out over Moose Creek. Lots of space to sit outside or inside and enjoy the views. Beautiful. You can't see the Alaskan Range or Denali from here. But, you are a short hike (4 miles round trip) to the Quigley Ridge or you can take the Camper bus to Wonder lake and see Denali (weather permitting).||||All but one room is outside the main lodge. So, being able to navigate stairs is must. If you have someone that is not as mobile. Consider requesting in the lodge room. There are still stairs though. Just not as many.||||We opted in for dinner and would highly recommend it. The food was terrific. In addition, dining is family style with everyone at a table. So, there is lots of opportunity to interact with other guests and learn from each other about Alaska and their experiences. Breakfast is on your own with a nice continental type selection. Lunch you can raid the refrigerator for left overs or make sandwiches. If you want to pack a lunch, that is possible as well.||||The bathrooms and showers are in the main lodge (not in your room). They are well maintained, plenty of hot water. Never had to wait for a restroom or the shower. I would not let this deter me from staying here. ||||The staff was wonderful. Peter greeted us and gave the "tour". Bobbie, Matt, Jena and others were always willing to help in whatever way they could. Then there were the best staff members, the dogs (Lucky, Daisy and Coco). They were great ambassadors.||||Skyline can provide hiking poles, bear spray, insect repellent, etc. So, feel free to ask if you don't have something they probably do.||||There is no TV, cell phone service wouldn't count on it, wifi maybe. But the whole point of being at a backcountry lodge it to get away. That you can do. Disconnect and enjoy!||||Definitely recommend and would go back...
Read moreA group of 7 of us stayed at the lodge for 3 nights in July. We would all go back in a heartbeat. The lodge is in a great location with access to tons of hiking. There are beautiful views from the balconies and many comfortable places to hang out for reading and writing. ||The staff are all super friendly and helpful, recommending hikes and things to do. They even helped us get a reservation at a great restaurant outside the park for a birthday celebration after we left the lodge. Even the dogs that lived there were super. ||The food... oh my goodness... it was exceptional. Supposedly the chef is coming out with a cookbook later this year which I would buy for her lime cilantro salad dressing alone, never mind the other great recipes sure to be in it. ||If you are looking for a place with all the bells and whistles, this is not the place. There is no TV. And the WIFI was iffy. But if you are looking for a friendly, comfortable place to unplug and unwind; to be surrounded by beautiful mountains, flowers and wildlife; to enjoy friendly travelers and staff, this is the place. ||It's a very relaxed place for...
Read moreMu husband stayed here during the heat wave in Denali the end of June (very unusual!), but couldn't have been happier with our experience. We wanted off the grid, friendly staff, great food, unique experience & we got it! The rooms were comfortable (so glad we had a fan to use) & the other guests we met were delightful. It was surprising & fun to grab a glass of wine one evening, in the common room, & overhear a parent trying to teach his adult son how to play Euchre! Not many folks outside the Midwest know how to play this card game & they were a group of 3, so I asked if I could be their fourth. They were more than happy to have me sit in & offer some of my own Euchre strategy!||For our arrival, we opted to bus in & fly out. The bus ride was long, but offered so many beautiful vistas & good wildlife sightings. The flight out was nothing short of spectacular! The pilot was friendly & professional. We got so close to Denali, I thought I could almost touch it. It was a clear, beautiful day & we knew we were fortunate. ||We would love to bring our friends & family back to this wonderful...
