Amazing Vacation!
We had the most amazing time at The Alaska Lodge! We decided to take a trip to Alaska when our sports season was cancelled in August. We were lucky to find The Alaska Lodge as it met all we were looking for. We wanted seclusion, the beautiful outdoors, scenery, hiking and fishing! It gave us all those things.
We left on a Tuesday morning and flew into Anchorage from Denver where we rented a vehicle. It took us a little under an hour to drive to Palmer, AK where we purchased out groceries. Beautiful small town that offers two great grocery stores to do your shopping. The Alaska Lodge has a fully stocked kitchen and grills outside so we purchased all the food we needed for meals. Actually we purchased too much food as we caught native rainbow trout each day to eat. It was delicious!
The Lodge is approximately 10 miles from Palmer and the roads were excellent. Beautiful scenery all the way to the lodge. Once we arrived, Johnathan and Alicia, the owners, greeted us and showed us where everything was located in the Lodge for our use. We got settled in and started to relax after the long flights.
As I mentioned, we fished each day and the Lodge provides all the gear you need. The boats have trolling motors fully charged and all the rods and lures for your use included. The lake is absolutely gorgeous and spring fed so it is crystal clear. We had the entire lake each day to ourselves as there are some private cabins but no one was there. We went to every part of the lake exploring and fishing the best holes. We were successful in bringing home a meal each day!
There also is plenty of things to do outside the lodge not far away. We visited the Matanuska Glacier (Cool experience), Hatcher Pass, the Reindeer Farm, Muskox Farm and did our own driving tour through the mountains! The roads were so smooth we had no issues with our rental.
They have some amazing hiking trails that you can do in the area as well. Johnathan can point you in the right direction. If you have four wheelers bring them as well because there are tons of off road trails to enjoy.
Because school was online, my son was able to do classes in the morning from the lodge and then play in the afternoon. The wifi worked great in the Lodge and he was able to attend all classes with video conferencing.
Sorry for the long rant about our vacation but we truly enjoyed all aspects of the Alaska Lodge and that part of Alaska. An amazing vacation and can't wait to book again in the future! Don't miss an opportunity to enjoy this unique,...
Read moreJohnathan and his wife Alicia were some of the kindest, most sincere people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I start this review by mentioning them because honestly, they were one of the biggest reasons why our week’s stay at The Alaska Lodge was so memorable.
My wife and I decided to spend Christmas, just the two of us, someplace we’ve never been before, and we chose Alaska. When I found this lodge, part of me was thinking the pictures were too good to be true. Haha, they’re not folks. The views from the Chalet will have you starring out the windows for hours. The full week we were there, the view never got old. The Chalet itself is comfortable, private, very clean, and has plenty of room (you get the whole upper Chalet to yourselves). The dry sauna was so nice to have after being out in the cold!
As far as activities - Johnathan provided us sleds, ice fishing gear, and all the answers to our questions we could ask about the surrounding mountains, trails, and wildlife. John’s the kind of guy who is warm and respectful if you want a private experience. Or if you have a plethora of questions and like to talk like I do, he shifts into story mode and a great convo ensues! This lodge is truly a gem. The love and care Johnathan and Alicia put into the property won't go unnoticed. Their guest’s experience truly feels like their top priority.
I’ll end with one last note about what kind of lengths these folks went to for my wife and I. We had some pretty bad car trouble our last day before we flew out, and we were mentally preparing for not being able to drive to Willow, about an 1hr 20min away, to go for a dog sled tour before we flew back home. After finding out, Johnathan looked at Alicia and said “I’ll take em! Right baby? I’ll take you guys if you’d still like to go! And then I can take you to the airport after!” I thanked him but told him I’d let him know, because deep down I had no idea how to accept such a kind gesture from someone I had just started to get to know. After a while, my wife helped me swallow my pride and we accepted. And I’m so glad we did, as the conversations we had during the drive were so good. And I got to know John even more. These people are the real deal. And I argue, that they’re the reason this lodge is such a gem in the...
Read moreThe week we spent at The Alaska Lodge was so incredible. You absolutely cannot beat the view & waking up with your coffee and looking out at the mountain and lake from the cabin. There were many times when we woke up, looked out at the lake from the lodge, and decided to go down and fish. While on the lake, we caught so many fish. I wasn’t big into fishing before, but I had an absolute blast fishing on the lake surrounded by mountains and actually catching fish! One of my favorite nights was when we were sitting by the fire looking out at the lake and we got a close up view of a young moose crossing the lake! I don’t know that you get more of a real Alaskan experience than you will at the lodge. It can be as adventurous or as laid back as you like it to be. The lake is very quiet, which is so nice. We could even hear the wings of the bald eagle flying over the lake! While staying at the lodge we also went to the Reindeer farm, walked on a glacier, and hiked around the area. The host is so knowledgeable and friendly and has great recommendations of things to do or see! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and could not recommend it more to anyone considering...
