Rating is certainly accurate but feel that it shouldn't be rated as a 3 star hotel. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and absolutely loved it. We arrived a few hours late and Annie left notes for us about where out room was even though we met her when we arrived. She told us she was worried about us but she kept our food warm and still cooked for us. She sat us down and her cooking was absolutely delicious. We were welcomed as we were family and was really relaxing after the long drive there. All staff members were very polite and even recommended going to the ice cave. The staff and Annie welcomes you in as if you're a part of her family. The rooms are clean and shower area is very professional. There are books throughout the entire lodge, games, and beautiful viewing of the mountains, wildlife, and the terrain. Whenever we visit Alaska again, we'll certainly be booking The Lodge at Black Rapids again. Thank you very much for your professionalism and welcoming us to your lodge

Thank you very much for rescuing me from the local wildlife in hip deep snow out in that crazy, wild and harsh, unforgiving Alaskan environment (at the same time it is very majestic and beautiful in the mountains where you are situated) I would also like to thank Damon for whipping up a delectable feast, fit for Kings and Queens. The food is to DIE for (luckily I lived to actually eat the food, thanks to Mike and the helicopter) also, thank you Helen for the transport and her expert area knowledge (which I didnt follow, hence the rescue) I will be sure to visit again in warmer weather so I dont get frostbite again. It was mild, so I only got blisters. Note to self: Use snow shoes in indeterminable looking snow. Am looking forward to seeing you all again to experience your amazing hospitality ❤️

Great place to stay for a few nights. It is remote, so remote that there's no power lines - all power is generator/solar. The closest community with food and gas is an hour away in Delta Junction, but the lodge does offer breakfast and dinner upon request, and we enjoyed breakfast the mornings we stayed there. The lodge itself is beautiful and worth some time looking around in the lodge. There's a few trails just out back from the lodge and we enjoyed just hiking and climbing up on of the nearby mountain streams. The accommodations were very nice, and the view was wonderful.

This review is only for the food, the lodge itself is nice and some of the accommodations are pleasant but we were there last night to eat and enjoy the view but we would have had better food if we’d opened a can of spaghetti O’s. Over the years I’d heard such great things about food and lodge I was looking forward to a good meal with a great atmosphere. The atmosphere didn’t disappoint but the food. Oh my the food. The chicken was so dry and tasteless that a cardboard box would have been equivalent - no, it probably would have been better. The accompanying - what I can only describe as gruel, was an unseasoned mush of barley that desperately needed either butter or olive oil and some salt and pepper at the least. It did have a few lovely carrot chunks knocking about amongst the barley paste and they were the highlight of the meal. The server was very nice and the folks that sat with us very pleasant company but I paid 50 dollars (including tip) for really bad food and that wasn’t pleasant. I’m not a picky eater and generally appreciate most food (even simple fare) but this meal was inedible. I would have gladly given it more stars just for the view and atmosphere but the food was so bad that it spoiled the view! I know that the supply issues are really affecting so much of Alaska even more than the lower 48 but heck, there are tons of lovely spring greens that could be foraged and the chicken could have been cooked so that it wasn’t dry and seasoned so it wasn’t tasteless. I’ve lived here long enough to be able to make do, even while entertaining, with what is available. Very sad experience. I’d give it another go someday just for the atmosphere and the views but I think I’ll...

This lodge is a relaxing retreat that is nestled at the foot of the Black rapids Glacier. It is in the middle of the Eastern Alaskan Mountain range with some of the most breathtaking views of the range and glacier! The friendly staff share a love for the Alaska living and outdoor adventures. They were accommodating and helpfull throughout our stay. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Lodge has multiple indoor and outdoor areas for guest to relax and enjoy their time if staying in for the day. This location has endless outdoor adventures within a short drive or walk of the lodge. (Hike, snowshoe, cross country-ski, fish, snowmobile, atv, etc.) We stayed for a few days while we snowmachined on the south side of the range at the end of November. The sauna is a great way to decompress and recover from the days activities. Each meal was unique, delicious, and provided great nutrition before and after your daily adventures. Parking was available for a few trailers depending on how many other guests were there. Highly recommend for those seeking to relax in the mountains or for those looking to enjoy the many outdoor activities in the area....

The lodge is a magnificent building, rooms warm and inviting and spectacular views from the front especially! You can do as little or as much as you desire- we were there for some R&R and stuck to the trails from the lodge as well as enjoyed an evening in the wood fired cedar hot tub! Meals are available on site and we highly recommend taking advantage-Marvelous! So much history (take the time to puruse some of the many articles and photos the owners have around the lodge), and check out the Roadhouse which the owners are in the process of lovingly restoring. Personally, for me, it was Annie and the staff who made our stay memorable. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet her husband Michael. She is the heart and soul of this place, never appearing ruffled and went well beyond the “norm”, at least in my experience. Our stay was one of the highlights of our 2 month long “Alaska” experience and that is saying a lot! My soul is forever touched by her kindness and warm heart. Don’t forget to ask her to play...
