A nice campground between the Seward Highway and Whittier.
The Portage Valley can get plenty of rain and wind, so come prepared. The Portage Glacier is one of many in this area, so bring the binoculars.
On a sunny day a kayak float down the Portage Creek is a lot of fun. There are many trails in the area including the Trail of Blue Ice.
The campsites are deep, so large RVs will do well here. There is no electric or water here. During off season times the camp is unmanaged, but you can stay for free. No trash collection while unmanaged, so pack out what...
Read moreWhat a beautiful campground! The mountains, glaciers, and woods surrounding the campsite are stunning. Each campsite is far enough from others and isolated by trees to be quiet. There are bathrooms scattered around the campgrounds so that you're never too far away from one. Water available from a hand pump. No showers. In the right season, you can also watch the salmon run here (we were a bit early in mid-July). We loved our stay! Read moreGorgeous campground, seems most sites are very private. Stayed in #10. No electric but my solar panel did just fine. No water hook ups or fill ups, there’s a couple spots with hand-pump water but not for filling rv tanks, fill elsewhere before arriving. Plentiful vault toilets. No dump station. Campground is connected to salmon viewing area and also the very gorgeous trail of blue ice- bring your bike!!! Extremely quiet at night once the Whittier tunnel closes for the evening.
