We have been going here since the early 70's. We all agree it has gone way down hill. The rates have gone up. Not an issue if it is spent upgrading or at the minimum maintaining the property. They spent the money on an entry gate with a computer payment box. Issue: You have to get out of your vehicle to use it, which holds up the line. It also charges a $3 fee on top of admittance for the convenience of using said box. We stayed in an RV, so we had toilets & shower. On the last night, there were 4 adults & 2 children that needed to bathe. So we thought we would take 2/2 to the showers for ease & quickness. Issue: The shower curtains are so slimy with Black mold/mildew that you don't even want to touch them. In fact, it is so thick that it has actually moved from the curtain to the wall. Really, How much does it cost to change out 2 shower curtains per bathroom? Do you not spray the stall down with bleach ever now and again?!? It sure didn't smell like it. HOT, HOT & HOT, No air conditioning, not even an industrial fan. Absolutely No air flow in there. Miserable to try & get dressed after your shower. Plus, there aren't showers for the tent sites, for the people that need it the most. We went to both beaches, small & large, both a big disappointment. They have eroded away terribly. Issue: The seaweed or grass has grown all the way to the beach. Even up on the beach in some areas. No swim area that is just sand/dirt. It was very unpleasant. The sunsets are still just as gorgeous as ever and the lake is still great for tubing & such fun. Issue: The growth is getting out of control. The docking areas for the boats are very shallow & over grown. It isn't good...
Read moreThe land and scenery is great, handfull of wild deer on the trail and primative sites. Few racoons at night. Not much to do unless you bring a boat/kayak. Fishing pier is nice, really only good place to bank fish. All the campsites have fresh water grass about 30ft from bank to deeper water,so hard to fish it.......but possible.
The problem is the other people. But cant fault the campground for that. There needs to be a rule,no atvs or golf carts allowed on the primative sites.
Rv campers ride the primative sites on golf carts, throw their empty beer cans and bottles, other trash in the trails. Ive seen it,picked up some of it. Sometimes Blasting their radios in the primative site trails till after dark. We were in a burn ban,and from my primative campsite i could see 4 other primative sites, all had wood fueled fires once it got dark. A group at a primative site across the water from me ran a generator from 6pm till 9 am the next morning to charge up 2 golf carts.theres signs stating no generators after 10pm. It was a quite generator, didnt bother me. So again....the people are the problem.disrespectfull, dont follow rules.
Not complaining about it,just stating what to expect.
My stay was nice and private, slept great,no visitors to my campsite.for the most part when someone sees your tent, they turn around and dont bother your site. Its my favorite louisiana...
Read moreOur favorite campground to stay at in Central Louisiana. It remains clean, and the facilities are convenient for families enjoying tent camping or RVing. There is plenty of room for little legs to stretch out without much worry for parents because most of the areas are thinned back and visibility is good. Most of the sites have fire rings with grills, though some are missing the grills. There is an ice machine for campers. Shower facilities stay heated during the colder months. Fishing is simple from the new facilities, and small perch and panfish are everywhere. Boaters can get out to the larger fish in the lake. During the summer months the beaches are great for day use... but the lake bottom is grassy and the more sensitive and city-fied may not enjoy the sheer country feel of it. Groceries are available within a couple miles. We have not been pestered by wildlife in the main...
