Our family has been regulars here for years. The service has always been woeful and, as so many other reviewers have noted, the accommodations are not impressive. The units are not updated, the annex has no AC, and the cleaning crew are teenager members the family-owners. You'll often find bugs, cobwebs, and dust in a recently "cleaned" unit. There are limited dishes, poorly functioning showers and sinks, and ill-supplied kitchens. Still, the location is nice and our family has grown up there so we returned annually.. until now. Never again will they see a dime from us.
We had a family member awake in the middle of the night with what presumably was bedbug bites all over her legs. Upon inspection, we found no live bedbugs but small dried blood spots on the sheets and a dirty mattress. We immediately told the son/owner and received not so much as an "I'm sorry this has happened" or any empathy whatsoever. We were told when housekeeping arrived he would call us and discuss our request to move us to another cabin or provide our family member with alternate lodging. He never called. We also asked where a nearby clinic was located and despite sitting on a company, the man retorted with, "I wouldn't know. I can barely run a resort. I'm not a doctor".
We went to the local clinic and were told by the healthcare professional that the bites were indeed, in her opinion, bed bug bites. She prescribed a medication to help with inflammation and sent us back to inform management with a note on her findings. The Peters' response would be laughable if not so shameful and shocking. We were told initially that they've never had bed bugs and don't have them now. We were then told that if our elderly guest (the one who received the bites) had brought the bed bugs to the resort and as a result they wouldn't move us into another cabin. They inspected the bedroom, dug through our luggage and clothes (which we'd placed outside in our suitcases) only to tell us they saw nothing and were short-staffed on cleaners so could not accommodate moving us to another unit, despite the entire resort showing available online and there about 10 other people at the resort. Again, not so much as an ounce of accountability, compassion, customer service... it's no wonder the resort appears to be on its last legs.
After an hour or so of pushing for a resolution (politely, I may add, despite not receiving any sort of professionalism in return) we finally received a refund on our deposit. We were told we were "blacklisted" and wouldn't be welcome back because we asked to not be charged for two of the 3 night stay (one night we wouldn't be staying, since they had no room for us in a clean cabin) Obviously, this was empty threat as we had no plans of returning. The lack of service has always been shocking but this went beyond the imageable.
There are other lodging options on the lake that we'd recommend long before we'll encourage anyone to visit here. Hoping they resolve the bug issue for then sake of...
Read moreWe were scheduled to stay in Summerset & Dundee cabins, which are adjacent and designed to be rented together. Two days before our arrival, we were told Dundee would not be ready, so they gave us another cabin. Upon our arrival, it was clear that it wasn't even close ... it looked like it was weeks from being ready. Then, after unpacking several items in Summerset, we found what appeared to be black mold in the crib room, behind pealing wallpaper, so we asked for a replacement accommodation for that, which was granted. We packed everything back up and moved ... to a cabin that was a little newer, but not fully furnished (missing a dishwasher).
Summerset/Dundee comes with 10 golf passes, and we were told they would give us those free of charge with the revised cabins as compensation for the inconvenience of having to relocate and split up our family. But then, when they refunded us for the difference in the cabin cost ("revised" cabins were less than Summerset/Dundee), they included the cost of those passes in the cost of the "revised" cabins - and we only used 5 of them. So it was not compensation for the inconvenience after all; it was an added charge, one we didn't even fully use. Despite efforts to explain to their billing department, they stood by their charges.
To summarize: One cabin wasn't close to ready, but they only gave us two days notice. One cabin had an apparent health issue. Relocating us split up our family. One of the revised cabins was not fully furnished. We were charged for items we didn't need and were told were being provided...
Read moreWe spent a most enjoyable weekend at Peter's Sunset Beach Resort. My family summered here many years ago. It was a joy to return to a beloved place of my youth, like meeting an old friend who has worked hard and done well for themselves over the intervening years.||||The first thing that sets Peter's apart is the history of the property. The resort has been run (loved/nurtured) by the Peters family for over 100 years. The grand old lodge, the ping pong house, and many of the buildings on the property have historical provenance. At the same time, thoughtful updates and improvements have been added over the years, the result of which is a relaxing, idyllic atmosphere.||||We stayed in Cabin 8. On arrival, the cabin was absolutely spotless. New appliances, comfortable bedding, strong wi-fi were among the many comforts we enjoyed. It was also fun to meet and chat with fellow guests as we all grilled our dinners outside :) This is classic Minnesota lake cabin life!||||There are also plenty of amenities to keep you busy--golf, tennis, fishing, swimming. There are even firepits for an evening campfire. The nice thing about relaxing here is that you can be as busy or as lazy as you like and never leave the property. ||||It is also a pleasure to interact with staff at Peter's. Everyone was friendly, helpful and had a can-do attitude. Staff take a personal interest in guest satisfaction. ||||I loved coming back to Peter's after so many years away. My every expectation was exceeded and I can't wait to come back. Highly...
