This park is RV heaven. Quiet, clean and beautiful, with lots of trees and grass. Air is fresh, and the mountain view cannot be beat. The pool is very well-kept, and the park is perfect for walking. Laundry is clean, showers are the best we've seen to date. Park staff is friendly and very helpful. Best of all, the visitors are as warm and friendly as they come. we had a starlit dinner with a group of laid-back, interesting tent dwellers (one young herpetologist taught us about vinegaroons while he played with one as if it was his pet), a very interesting chat with Neighbor Bill - a handsome older gentleman in a top hat and a fabulous motor home, and received a free movie from a Fandango fan visiting for their annual get-together. We even became friends with a charming local women who offered us excellent advice on route planning and who may join us in our adventures later.
The town is special, with eclectic shops, great food (Reata for dinner (make reservations!), Judy's Bread and Breakfast Bakery (OMG check out the artwork and make sure to speak with the radio personality/artist who buses tables!), and Thai-Way (it's worth the wait but check the hours). Porters grocery stores have what you need and rate up there with the best, and the stone & jewelry shop next to Reats's has unusual stones, and almost everything else.
We liked Marfa but we loved Alpine. HIGHEST...
Read moreMy wife and I first came to Lost Alaskan last year and used it as a base camp to visit all of the surrounding national and state parks including Big Bend, Davis Mountains, The McDonald Observatory. We have been to many RV parks and resorts but this is one of the best. The sites range from regular to super premium and accommodate anything up to 90 ft. The facilities especially the restrooms, showers, community room, washers and dryers are all excellent. There are spaces on the property for tents in areas that are covered and provided with electricity. The swimming pool is cold and inviting. To me, most importantly, is this RV park is in one of the most outstanding dark sky regions of the United States. The pictures you're looking at were actually taken, late night with my telescope, except the one of the Sun, on the road just outside of our RV trailer. Whether you're interests lie with hiking, driving scenic loops or astrophotography, this is the RV park you want to stay in. If you want something a bit swankier, they have two cabins for which reservations can be made on Air bnb. By the way, The owners and the work staff really do a great job taking care of...
Read moreThe best spot in town, although i think it's the only spot. Very small town. The site 8 was gravel and level with giant shade tree. Night is quiet & stary. We stayed there 3 days with plans to see marfa lights, about 15 minutes out of town. Which we did ( take binoculars). The park has several big speed bumps - hate those things. Talked with staff for maybe 3 minutes - seemed friendly. No food or drinks other than 2 vending machines. Saw several deer by RR tracks in the back part of camp.
Check out snack shack 1/2 mile up the road. Best fries cooked by a 100 year old lady.
No fault of the park, The county was repaving the road out front and worked up to midnight so there was machinery hum. 2 trains passed in the night. 1 st night there were unusual high winds.
There's a bridge out of town on sr90. Clearance 13.7 my rv is 13.3 so it was close,
While there my son had a chest issue, so i took him to the hospital after 2 walk-in clinics refused him ( booked a week out). The hospital took him right away and gave him A+ treatment. DR Taylor was great...
