Cockrell's High Desert Lodging — Hotel in Alturas

This is the 2nd time we’ve enjoyed Debra’s hospitality at Cockrell’s High Desert Lodging during our National|Sheepdog Finals. This year they were held in Canby. That’s a bit of a drive, but so worth it. ||The Surprise Valley is magical, and the town of Cedarville charming. We loved our stay here in Lodge #2 over the summer! Debra, the owner, is fantastic and a great host! Though the lodge is part of an active ranch operation, it’s very peaceful and you won’t see anyone for miles.

The lodge itself is over 130 years old and is nicely renovated. You can easily fit 7 people in to Lodge #2 and is a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Finally, the night sky is amazing! We highly recommend visiting during the new moon. The galaxy is clearly visible from the lodge and provides a great window into what the universe...

Spent the weekend at Cockrell's High Desert Lodge for a class reunion and the Eagleville BBQ, and it was truly one of the most peaceful and relaxing getaways I’ve had in a long time.
