We loved it here. I’m hoping to return sooner than later. It is THE perfect place for laying in a spring water tub outside and star gazing. We deliberately chose to go during the meteor shower and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend before doing anything upon arrival is going straight to the ac and turn that bad boy on. It will take a bit depending on size of room. Reading some of the comments I find some unfairly judged. You are going in the middle of the desert and what you have to work with is what others have to work with so do research if you need help deciding if you should bring viva towels or your matching high end dining ware. This isn’t the Hilton. It’s better. It’s pet friendly and the pet accommodations great. They offer a sheet to lay across furniture so to keep any bedding or fabric shed free. I would have never guessed there was a dog in our room prior to our stay. The rooms are motel style, quiet, comfortable, safe & very private. We were in room 17. ❗️ highly recommended: get your pup some dog shoes. It will make a huge difference if you plan to go out and adventure. The ground can be unbelievably hot in summer. The owners clearly bust their butts to share their hard work and achievements with visitors and deserve kudos.

One of the best hot spring hot tub hotels but it's not fancy! On the edge of the far northeaster California border, this hot spring hotel's specialty is that most rooms have their own private hot spring fed hot tub (concrete) that you can regulate the temperature of on a small fenced patio. The views are absolutely epic out there and their are geese and ponds on the property. Their are small kitchenettes and some rooms have a larger kitchen and there are outdoor grills around the property as well. The rooms could use some tlc as far as flooring, bedding, art, tv size and the cold water pressure is so low that is is hard to not get your shower to be 1000 degrees because the hot spring water is piped in there too... Same at the sinks. For these reasons I believe this place does NOT ALLOW CHILDREN!!!! I personally love this! Some rooms are dog friendly but a daily pet fee applies.

Hello. I must preface this review with this: I have never written a negative review about an establishment. However, I cannot draft a positive one for Surprise Valley based upon the fact that due to a reservation error, my wife and I never got to experience it. I made our reservations on December 27th for a three day trip in April. I received a confirmation and room number after submitting my credit card info. Just like I have done dozens of times before for other vacation or business stays We drove the 3 hours from Reno to get there, excited for a little getaway. When we arrived, however, there was no reservation or room for us and the hotel was BOOKED. Though I had the receipt with the confirmation and room number for the specific dates listed, it was a no go. The after hours attendant told us that "technically we were supposed to call afterwards to confirm the reservation, "you know like everywhere else (meaning LITERALY NOWHERE ELSE) does when booking online. He was adequately flustered and apologetic, and he said that this has happened several times in the past. He took copies of our info and told us there was nothing he could do, but that he would let the owners know and that they would probably make it right with us. Well. Nearly 2 weeks have passed and no word from the owners and a phone that is never answered it seems. So here is my suggestion. If you have had repeated reservation errors due to a poor scheduling system, FIX THE ISSUES. If your staff passes on an issue for you to resolve, RESOLVE IT don't just blow someone off. We had to find different accommodations in Alturas that night after driving all day and only luckily managed to find a decent Air B&B in Oregon (at much higher cost) to at least salvage our trip. I know that accidents happen, but not following through with folks who made the effort to patronize your business...
