Rented cabin 62 at Pymatuning State Park Andover, OH. Check-in is 4:00 PM we arrived at exactly 5:00 PM and no one was in the office. There is an unsecured box on the building with a list of names and your cabin number and the keys were hanging there for anyone to take. The key for 62 was missing, but the key for 61 was there. We called the contact number and waited for the park ranger to come. He retrieved a key from the office and then found the person that took our key and brought us an extra key. Upon arrival, we noticed the cabin was in need of repair in many areas; screened in porch door had screen ripped, showered leaked around base of door (damaging flooring), toilet leaked around base (damaging flooring), cupboard bifold door in kitchen broken and various other damages. On our second day, we awoke to having brown water coming out of faucets, causing us to have to purchase bottled water for drinking and cooking. On our third day, we left as a group to go fishing at 11:30 AM. My wife and father returned to the camp around 2:00 PM to find a white car parked in our space and a man and a woman getting out of their car. As soon as my wife pulled in, the man and woman hurriedly got back in heir car and left. My wife then saw the lady who claimed to be the cleaning lady, had just unlocked our door to as she claimed, "show the empty cabin to the couple". If my wife and father would not have returned when they did, we would have been cleaned out. Later that evening we also noticed someone had reached through the ripped screen door, entered the screened porch and stole some toys of our daughters that were in a bag. I called the after hour number to report everything. The same Park Ranger that had originally retrieved our missing key showed up to take a statement. It seemed very awkward for him as he couldn't even seem to look my wife or I in the eye while talking to us and gave me a report to fill out and drop off at the park office. Right before our departure, the camp manager stopped by to ask about the cleaning lady and explained it was just a mistake. A mistake to just unlock your door and let someone in? That's a heck of a mistake. This will be our last trip to a very poorly maintained, managed and secured Pymatuning State Park Campground at...
Read moreApparently you're not allowed to spray salt, Dawn dish soap, white vinegar and water on poison ivy on your lot at a state park . Even though there's nothing in the rules that say that or anything like that . U are issue the rules at the time of check-in. When the park officer arrived at my camp sit and told me that I was not permitted to spray poison ivy . I told him I didn't know I wasn't allowed to do that and I won't do it again . He proceeded to go on and tell me that I needed a special permit and special training to spray that stuff in a state park and that I was destroying property this carries $145 fine . I asked him since I didn't know if I could have a warning. He said No and issued me a citation and i have to appear in court. When he was reading me my citation . There was so much stuff in it . apparently you're not even allowed to pick up Kiln or broken limbs off the ground you're not allowed to pick a blade of grass etc. but he told us they never enforce that. So i'm confused what is it ? Is it a rule or don't u force it? confused!!! Not to mention the cops are not preventing all the speeding dangers, but patrolling the wheels in grass- because they pick and choose what...
Read more07/11/2020 Very disappointed with how the park is being maintained or lack there of. The road is full of holes. It makes driving through the park almost impossible. When you pull up to the boat dock to put your boat in there are always people on the dock fishing or parked in the grass or in the middle of the road. Which makes putting your boat in the water nearly impossible or dangerous. Especially when kids are swimming or jumping off the docks. When you ask people if they can move they get angry. With you. Multiple times this Summer I've seen people keeping extremely small fish. While I know there isn't a size limit on some of the fish, how do people expect to keeping fish in this lake if they're keeping the next generation. Where are park rangers and why isn't the park being maintained.? Who is in charge of this park because theyre doing a horrible job. Maybe someone new needs to be in change. A couple years back this park receivesd a one million dollar grant,...
