Wow, just Wow! The Courtwood Inn is located up in the hills a short drive from downtown Murphy's. Set off by itself with stunning views over the hills, it is peaceful and quiet. The log home is perfect for the setting. We parked and buzzed to get in to check-in late afternoon. Larry and Chris were so friendly and welcoming. They checked us in, showed us around the common areas and breakfast room then took us downstairs to our room, which is just off a game room with a ping pong table.||The house is like stepping into a mountain log home. The living room has a beautiful stone fireplace and comfy furniture to cozy into with a good book. The wrap around deck off the living room has tables and chairs with boundless views. The wine bar off the entry is where you will find your cheese and crackers and glass of wine from the local area in the late afternoon. The breakfast room is cozy and comfortable.||Going downstairs to our room, we were in the Australian Open room, just off a larger game room with a ping pong table. Our room was so cozy and comfortable. We had a small living area with a sofa and coffee table. The bedroom had a comfy bed with a TV and sliding doors out to the lower patio. There were stunning views from the patio and a table with four chairs. Our bathroom was large with a large vanity and double sinks and a fabulous shower. We settled in, sat out on the deck upstairs to enjoy our wine, views and cheese and crackers. ||Our one night stay was during the week and there was only one other couple at the inn who were so nice and we enjoyed a visit with them over a delicious breakfast the next morning.||We so wished we had more nights at this inn. Everything was first class and again Larry and Chris are the perfect owners for an inn. They cooked breakfast themselves and it was incredible. We didn't even need lunch.||Both Larry and Chris are tennis Phanatic's, and there are tennis courts at the inn. I believe they both may have played professionally and you can get lessons with Larry if you schedule them before your stay. ||Note: As we were leaving and visiting with Larry and Chris, we told them we will be back as Murphy's is such a cool town in the Gold Country and the inn is the best. Larry said well with that being said, Chris and I have decided to retire and he handed me a flyer from the real estate company along with a letter from he and Chris advising guests of their retirement. However, until it sells they will be running the inn. So, do yourself a favor and run to stay at the inn before we may no longer have that option.||Thank you Larry and Chris, although our stay was short, we loved every minute and enjoyed meeting and visiting...
Read moreWe stayed at the Courtwood Inn when we were looking for a weekend getaway in Murphys, California. We had never been to Murphys before, but heard good things and were excited to try the local wineries.
We had an amazing time staying at Courtwood. The entire inn is absolutely beautiful, with large wood beams and great views. We stayed in one of the suites upstairs which was large with an amazing bathroom. We also loved having a balcony to sit and drink tea on in the mornings.
Breakfast was absolutely delicious every single morning. Chris and Larry are amazing chefs, I wish I had them cooking every morning! We also loved the wine reception where we got to chat with them and the other guests, and of course I couldn't get enough of the baked goods :)
The Inn was a little drive from downtown, but still convenient and Chris/Larry are even willing to drive you to town for dinner if your not able to from your day of wine tasting. We also did a wine tour with Chris on Saturday which was great! She took us to a handful of local wineries and we didn't have to worry about driving. We found them to be truly gracious hosts and will certainly be staying here again the next time...
Read moreWe just experienced the best weekend at Courtwood Inn. The owners were super friendly upon arrival, providing a tour, escorting us to our room and making sure we knew the layout and how everything works. We wanted to slow down and enjoy a quiet weekend. This is THE perfect place for that. The location is outstanding, nestled amongst the trees with great views. We opted in for the wine and cheese upon arrival and this ended up being our dinner. It was just enough.
Breakfast on Saturday was delicious starting with fresh fruit and a lemon creme topping. Followed by German pancakes, made from apples grown on site, bacon, coffee and OJ. We didn't have breakfast on Sunday as we were meeting a friend, but it sure smelled yummy!
They also put out a fresh dessert each evening.
The attention to detail, luxury items, comfortable bed and cleanliness make this a safe bet. It's lovely, but not pretentious. Throw in the location, the kind and welcoming Inn owners and you are in for a...
