Ok. If this is your first trip to the barracks at the Center for Domestic Preparedness or sometimes called the Anniston FEMA training site, set your mind to the basics. There are no elevators in the barracks. Let me repeat: There are no elevators in the barracks. This facility is part of the old Ft. McClellan. If you have a VALID medical need, not just because you're older and....softer, you can request a room on the first floor. There is no equipment to help you with your bags. If you're bringing more than 3 bags, I suggest you reconsider. Be prepared to walk. Beds are basic, as are desks, etc. This is not the Marriott. Staff is friendly and helpful, you be too! Being snarly or rude to staff can get you sent home without discussion. Think of the CDP barracks as an adventure and you're...
Read moreFirst time at CDP. The rooms were better than expected. Very clean and has all the basics. Tv with cable, microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker. Food was very good. Always a lot of variety for breakfast lunch and dinner. I never expected to get steak and shrimp but that was for lunch one day! The on site gym had all new equipment, free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. There is a nice lounge that serves beer and wine (no liquor) and has dart boards, billiards and some other games. Good place to unwind after having class all day. Wi-Fi needs improvement. Cell phone service is spotty on base too and that was with Verizon. Shuttle service is available but limited. The instructors were awesome and very knowledgeable! Great experience! I'll be back and looking...

The room that I stayed in was clean and maintained. Since it is a retired military base the bathrooms are "jack and jill" style. The bathroom was cleaned daily and well stocked. The only complaint that I have about the housing building is that the thermostat was locked. Having control of the thermostat would have been nice. The entire week I was there I sweated while I slept. It was between 10-12* hotter in the room I was staying in vs my bedroom at home. (God Bless people who are here in the summer - yuck.) I would stay in the CDP barracks again. I would recommend the...
