So beautiful out there! To reach the campground you must have a high clearance 4WD vehicle..nothing else would make the last 2 miles. Sites 1-3 to the right on entering are the easiest to get to.. I didn’t even want to try going left to the other sites. But wow is it gorgeous there! The Tuweep overlook is a fairly quick hike down the road ( I can’t see any reason to wreck my transfer case to drive there from the campground) and one of the best views of the canyon you can get. With beautiful sunrises, great hikes, monsoons, the blanket of stars and the Milky Way, I entertained myself the whole time. Hope to head back in a few weeks!

A remote and peaceful campground with amazing views during the day and dark skies for star viewing at night. I stayed in site 3 for the view which had plenty of space for my vehicle and tent. Awesome campsite for sunrise and sunset. There was no shade, ranger Todd later told us sight 8 and 9 had some shade during midday. The overhang by the cliff was already taken when we arrived and provides the most shade. Stayed 3 nights and maybe a total of 10 other people seen during those days. Easy walk to rim from campground. Also hiked to Vulcans throne and Lava Falls trail (~4.4 miles one way).

This is worth the drive. All the staff including the Ranger, and I only remember the name Bob the volunteer, were fantastic. The amenities were clean and surprisingly odor free. Most of the camp spots have a spectacular view. The second night, we were one of two vehicles there so you won't feel crowded. I'll be back again for the views. The Parashant has it all geologically, if you're into that. If not, and you love seclusion, and this is one of the best way to see the Canyon without rafting it.

I've been to 37 US National Parks and going to Tuweep ranks as one of the best park experiences I've had, despite two days of rain there. Aside from the amazing views, our experiences with the volunteers Chris and Skip were phenomenal. They are clearly passionate about their work and do everything possible to maintain very high standards at this campground...even the compost toilet bathrooms were in great condition. In addition they were very helpful with providing us information on the different campsites and suggested some hikes for us to do, along with advice on the best times of the year to visit there. Although we had to cut the trip short by a day due to the weather, this was still a great trip and an amazing...

Nice backcountry campground. Pretty spot, nice volunteers, and helpful ranger. The great reviews are right on, but let me add a few notes. Be aware you need a permit ahead of time and you need a street-licensed but high clearance 4x4 to get the last 2-3 miles to the area. The 9 campsites are basically right on slickrock, or an inch of sand on rock. Great for self-standing tents, not so great for our springbar tent that needs to be deeply staked to stand. A popup camper on a 4x4 would be good, or a high-clear 4x4 van. OTOH a nice guy with a small overlanding (jeeping) trailer found the approach and campground roads too tight and steep to bring his trailer out to the camp. So choose your...
