How was my stay? It was EXPENSIVE that's how it was. Our spur of the moment trip to Ashland turned sour after our stay here. I called at 442pm to see if pets were ok, was told w/$25 fee, ok, no problem, I asked for room rates was told $129.99 and I asked what the difference was between the differen types of rooms (Superior, Premier and Luxury) because I couldn't see a difference in the pictures or descriptions on their website. She said they're the same! My daughter and two grandkids picked this hotel because it allowed pets and had a swimming pool, even though the slides weren't open. (That was actually pretty nice because we had it to ourselves) and the pool was clean and nice. It looked like a very nice water park! When we got there, at approximately 530pm, nobody was at the front desk, no problem, I know they have other duties, so I rang the bell, when she did come from the back, no hello, hi, how are you, can i help you, nothing just sarcasm and rudeness. I asked any rates and what I was told over the phone, I was told the cheapest rate would be $159.99 + $25 pet fee. I asked if that was a Lakeview room, she snapped "It is". I asked if there was a cheaper rate possible,"NO". I asked what about online, if it would be cheaper to book it on their web page, "I don't know!" sarcastically. Shocked me the way she said it so I said you don't know? Again, "I don't know" as she stood there watching me try to find rates on your website, then i asked her what the difference was in the different room types because I didn't see a difference between done if them, again she snapped "Nothing, they're the same!" I said well do you at least give AARP rates? "Yeah", she didn't ask if I was a Wyndham Member or not, so I didn't get any of my points. The room AC was kicking out warm air, the room and hallways smelled of mildew and the beds were like sleeping on the cement patio! The night auditor was very friendly, nice and funny. I appreciated having someone who actually had a personality and cared I was a guest. So to her I say thank you. I didn't get a receipt, but figured I'd get it under the door in the morning like most places do.. but no. Had to ask the next morning for one, which didn't show me AARP discount. But the worse part, was that my daughter's van fog lights appeared to have been broken out and a deep scratch on the drivers headlight. We had very spotty cell service so we couldn't call to complain and had to leave early for an appointment my daughter had to get to. When we got back home, we looked at the lights closer and they appear to have either been shot out with a BB gun or keyed until they broke. I was outside by the lake with my dog around 11pm, and she started growling like something was wrong, our room was at the west end, #133, so I got creeped out and went inside, especially since my daughter noticed several male individuals just sitting in their cars when she came back from Walmart and one guy just sat there leering at her.

First off I really do like AmercInn as a chain. I know some are better kept than others, but for the price per night I was not impressed at all. Firstly, check in. While the gentleman who checked us in wasn't exactly unpleasant, he was definitely frazzled and complained of websites letting people book rooms that weren't available. Luckily the room I booked was. A "superior 2 queen lake view". Now mind you this was for a Thursday, not during applefest or anything crazy. We paid approx 190 for the night, so I expected, a nice view, clean and fairly well kept furnishings. What we got was technically lake view but was on the first floor so it was also grass, bugs, and dirt view. Also it was literally directly in from the door to the outside/vending and ice. Noise was a bit off putting, but I knew the hotel was full due to check in comments. At first glance the room seemed fine. But after a night trying to sleep in a bed with a definite groove in the center, plug ins so wobbled out the charger kept unplugging, and a bathroom that looked like a Petri dish of spores could be collected from it, I'm irritated. Then we went to breakfast. The room is all the way down by the conference area, small and had way too many people in way too little space. The breakfast fare was standard, but the sausage&eggs were Luke warm at best. There was only 1 waffle maker and 1 pancake maker. Also something to absorb sounds in that room would help as the voices were so loud I couldn't handle it in there. Basically for 80$ a night this would b the quality I expect, but not at this price point.

I will start by commending the Management. We registered for a 3 day stay but because of the unsanitary conditions we checked out after the first night. Management looked at our concerns, acknowledged them and comp'd us for the night. The desk clerk on duty was the poor recipient of our complaint and others. She tried to track down the on-site manager but couldn't because he doesn't carry a radio, pager or cell phone. He left and another manager came on duty and took care of our concerns. The The majority of the problems were in the bathroom. Filthy showerhead, filthy floor, running toilet - so loud it kept me awake even with a noise maker in the room. Wallpaper peeling off the wall in the bathroom. The toilet was installed wrong, it was crooked. Lots of debris in the hallways. Breakfast was room temperature - eggs, biscuit and gravy all in one warmer. I brought it to the attention of the staff person and she took it to the "kitchen" in containers and microwaved the food in shifts. I asked for water and was told I could get some from the "kitchen" sink. No thanks.

AmericInn is an excellent place to stay, especially if you have children who love to swim! I would've given them a 5 star rating but there were a couple of things that I thought could've been better for the price we paid and that stuff will be at the end of my review because it they weren't huge issues.

We have a family of 6 and the children range from 2 - 13 and there was something for ALL of them, even in the pool which is hard to find. The older kids spent hours on the 2 water slides and the 5 year old did too but had to go down with an adult, of course, so he didn't have as much time on the slides as the 2 13 year olds did, but didn't have nothing short of a wonderful time nonetheless. Our 2 year old had just as much fun in what he called his pool, lol, because it was literally made specifically for toddlers. AmericInn provides you with life vests and there's a lifeguard on duty so it makes a paranoid mama like me feel better since my 2 year old has absolutely no fear of water and will jump in at any given moment.

AmericInn has plenty of things to do outside as well, they provide you with inter tubes for floating on the bay, you can grab one their bikes to take a ride down the trail behind the hotel that runs along the bay, there's even fishing poles you can use to fish off shore or from the dock, and they have smores every night for anyone that wants to make one. You pretty much can have a fire every night if you wanted to right on the private beach behind the hotel and watch the sunset which will take your breath away every night.

We had a double queen bedroom suite on the second floor with it's own balcony that had wonderful views of the bay, room 249, and it was a vary nice room with the exception of 2 things, there were cobwebs still in the window and the coffee pot wasn't cleaned out which isn't a big deal but when someone is paying that kind of money that shouldn't be overlooked. Being on the lake you have to expect some cobwebs but not inside of the room, just my opinion though.

Staff was extremely helpful and courteous and the only problem we had was when I originally booked the room I asked the woman on the phone will this be the price for both rooms and she responded yes so I assumed from this conversation and the confirmation receipt sent to me that both rooms were included in the price shown but this was not the case, it was that price for each room. It was a good thing that both of our rooms we booked would fit 6 people otherwise we would've been screwed and I'm not sure we would've been able to find another place to stay this time of year. If anyone from AmericInn reads this I would suggest sending invoices with a complete total on them when you confirm a stay so guests can see plan as day what their grand total is going to be.

One suggestion to anyone that is going to get a suite ask for one on the first floor so you have a walk out porch that goes right onto the grounds in back of the hotel with the exception of a couple of rooms, when we come back we will be requesting a room on the first floor.

Thank you for the great stay AmericInn we...

I visited the AmericInn in Ashland on Wednesday 11/15/12. I found the whole hotel very clean and nicely decorated throughout. The lobby area had a fireplace, flat screen TV, a computer, and many couches and chairs to relax on if you didn't want to sit in your room.

There was some work being done in the pool area and the "Splashland" park was closed, but this was completely explained at the desk when I checked in. There was a slight "varnish" smell from the work being done, which is the only reason I gave the facilities a "very good" instead of "excellent". A big plus was they had a guest laundry facility, at a reasonable price, which I utilized.

Everything in my room was clean, fresh, and modern with a flat screen TV. It included wifi, a coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave. It had an incredible view of Chequamegon Bay and the Ashland Breakwater! I wish I would have stayed here in warmer weather and had the opportunity to sit on one of the many lakeview benches or to use the outdoor patio and breakfast areas. My bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows and blankets. Not ONCE did I ever hear anyone or anything in the hallway or in the adjoining rooms to disturb my stay or my sleep.

The breakfast was wonderful and included the usual items coffee (which was very good as I'm a "coffee snob"), tea, juices, cereals, bagels, toast, and muffins, but it also had wonderful waffles, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, and more! The breakfast area was clean and neat with windows over looking the bay, newspapers, and a TV showing the news. Although I was unable to us it, there was an outdoor deck for guest to enjoy their breakfasts on in warmer weather. The ONLY drawback to breakfast was the little bit of a walk to get to the area, but it certainly wasn't a problem.

I found all the staff I interacted with friendly, pleasant, smiling, and very helpful! Although the price was slightly higher than a comparable local motel ($20) which I had stayed at previously, I found my overnight stay at the AmericInn much more pleasant and restful. Well worth the few extra dollars.

There were many little "perks" which I have forgotten to mention, such as a windshield cleaning station in the parking lot, that were unexpected which added to my positive experience and review of this motel. I have no idea where the reviewer from 2 years ago had stayed, but it certainly was not the AmericInn I enjoyed!! I would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend family and friends to stay here.

Thank you...
