We recently stayed at Lost Man Campground near Aspen, CO, and had an incredible experience. Nestled just off Independence Pass, this campground offers a peaceful, scenic escape that feels miles away from the hustle while still being close to all kinds of outdoor adventures.
From the moment we arrived, Jace, the camp host, made us feel welcome. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful—the kind of host who takes pride in the campground and clearly cares about visitors having a great stay. Whether it was helping us find the best nearby hikes or just checking in to see how things were going, Jace made a great impression.
The campground itself is very well-maintained. Our site was clean and spacious, with plenty of room for kids and dogs to roam safely. The bathrooms were spotless (a rare treat at many campgrounds), and the whole place had a tidy, well-managed feel without being overly restrictive or crowded.
This is a perfect spot for families. Our kids had a blast exploring the area, and there was no shortage of rocks to climb, creeks to splash in, and trails to wander. Our dog was just as happy, with lots of shady spots and room to relax after hikes.
Lost Man Trailhead is just down the road, and there are numerous other hikes nearby for all skill levels. The location also makes for easy day trips along Independence Pass, with scenic drives, lakes, and alpine views around every curve. It’s an ideal basecamp for exploring the high country.
If you're looking for a quiet, clean, and friendly campground with access to some of Colorado's most beautiful terrain, Lost Man Campground is a fantastic choice. We’ll definitely be back—and we hope Jace is still hosting...
Read moreWe stayed at the Lost Man Campground for three nights at the beginning of August to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The area is beautiful, with plenty of short and long hikes nearby and lots of places to explore. Our little one especially enjoyed seeing deer wander near our tent in the mornings, splashing in the creek that runs behind the campground, and exploring the surroundings. Overall, it was a wonderful stay!
We arrived on a Monday afternoon and had about three sites to choose from—though all the creekside spots were already taken. While we never saw a camp host during our visit, the toilets were...
Read moreOn a whim on a Sunday afternoon, my girlfriend and I pulled in, thinking there wouldn't be any sites available, but we got a great one! $25 per night and right across the road from Lost Man trailhead and we were sold! Even though the campground is right next to the highway, traffic pretty much stopped by dinner time and we were treated to a visit by a doe that we named Dora. There's a beautiful little river that...
