Ok. The first room we were given a key to was horribly dirty. The couch had visible stains on it. The bathroom was dirty, and the shower head had dark spots. Told this to the front desk, and they said they were all booked up, but they would see what they could do. The next guest wasn't checking in, so they switched us to their room. This was a bit better, but only by the shower head, really. The couch, which I didn't take pictures of because we used it as a luggage rack and the shower which I did take pictures of cause....why is the shower dirty.
I asked them to send someone to clean it, but that individual said they didn't see anything wrong with it.
Also, they need to wash the sheets and comforters. I understand wrapping the comforters in sheets and not washing them, but when they both look like that, I think it's time. I did ask for new sheets, but when I got back to my room the next night after being out all day, it was the same sheets just tucked up to the pillows. I had untucked the bottom corner, which was still untucked on my arrival.
The last big con was the air conditioner in the room, which gave strong motel vibes. You can turn it down if it gets too cold, which it does since the fan blows constantly, though a bit lower if you switch it off. However, turn the air up higher than the ac can leep up with, and the heat will turn on drying out the room to heat it up. Granted, the unit still said it was on ac, not heat, so the heat turning on was a surprise to me.
The visible knicks and dings in the room, walls, and ceiling wouldn't have even been that bad if the room had been clean.
That's all the bad. The good, to be fair, was good. The breakfast was good, namely the eggs. They had cinnamon bagels and english muffins and cream cheese ALL INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED, which was great. I touch my food and no one elses. Loved it. Those eggs, they put something in there cause there were the best hotel eggs I have ever tasted, and I am still thinking about how good they were. We went out and bought english muffins to recreate the sandwiches we made, but the taste is different. Those eggs were good, y'all.
Staff was super nice and very welcoming. Someone would always greet you whenever they saw you, not just if you were walking up to the desk. Must be that southern hospitality cause I was coming from the North, and it was noted and appreciated. I even used the workout area, which had two treadmills, and elliptical and water. I didn't go to the pool but they did have this picturesque seating area outside.
You can see in the pictures I sat out there for a bit, till I got bit by an ant and went back in, but it was a real good vibe out there. Thankfully, someone planted a big bush nearby so my seat was in tne shade but it was a nice option to have.
All in all, if the room was clean and the ac didn't either freeze me or dry me out I would come back. Great people, good location, I was in Athens for family but could easily get to what I needed to easily, namely some checkers fries I would...
Read moreI have never written a review of any kind but my terrible experience was so bad that I had to write to inform others about how this location and Marriot operates. First, I am a Marriott rewards members and I had been using Marriott locations exclusively for business and personal travel, however, after this experience that will change. I am an UGA football program fan and I know several young men who play on the team. I bring my son to most of the time games and I was in town for the game against Kentucky. I booked a room for this location and I called Friday evening and Saturday morning inquiring about an early chech-in. On the morning of traveling to the game, I called and spoke with Pam Doonan (who I later found out was GM) at 10:46 AM stating that I was in route and wanted to check in early. She stayed that they were full the night before and when I arrived if they could accommodate me they would. I clearly stated my name and I had a reservation. Immediately after hanging up with her, since I have the mobile Marriott ap, I did a mobile check-in to ensure my room would be available. Once I arrived 2 hours later, I was informed that my room had been cancelled due to the fact that my card in my profile could not be charged. Pam Doonan stated that she tried to call me. I went and checked my email and she sent an email at 10:41 AM about this problem, however, she spoke with me no more than 5 minutes later and did not mention any problem with the card. Not only that, other than that particular card, I have another card on file that was valid. I do have my thoughts on why this happened but we already have enough division in this country. I will advise everyone to stay away from this property and I often travel for business and I will rethink using Marriott exclusively. I would like to thank the young lady at Wingate Inn who went out her way to make accomadations and allowed us to make it to the game. The real rating...
Read moreSpringHill Suites (clean, comfortable and safe) is conveniently located 10 min from downtown Athens GA. which is a fun little city with many places to dine ( try the Grit for breakfast, it's Vegan even thought I am not), a great brewery called the Creature Comforts Brewing Company and Copper Creek Brew Pub both very good... or just for walking around site seeing, it's also home to the University of Georgia Bulldogs.. # nice campus. If you want shopping, there's a nice center with several stores from Best Buy to a Marshall's/Ross's about a mile away from SHS which is nice if you forgot something like me. I was also told that the was a big indoor mall off Route 10 which circles Athens not far away from SHS. The purpose for our stay was a wedding in Monroe about 21 min away at the 9 Oak Farms facility which is Excellent by the way...what a really great venue! The next day we drove to Atlanta on the Fourth of July which is just about an hour away.. again with many things to there too. We went to the World of Coca Cola then lunch at Max Lagers Brewery Pub (recommended) it's just a short walk away, then to the Aquarium (hey, we were typical tourists that day...okay) a light dinner at SLICE a friendly local Bar and Pizza complete with a residential friendly college professor named "Francisco" from Spain/Brooklyn.. who has his "Norm's from Cheer" seat at the end of the bar. Then we stayed for the fireworks at Centennial Olympic Park. Our final day we went to Stone Mountain & Village (exit 5) and to a German restaurant brew pub with excellent sauerbraten and delicious Black Forest Cake with real whipped cream ...Yum! If your exploring the Atlanta area... want great value, clean facilities, a great breakfast ...I recommend staying at SpringHill Suites just outside the city of Athens... it's all...
