Prior to our four day, whirlwind, Birthday/Anniversary trip to Arkansas and back, I was using Google Maps in an attempt to scope out a place to stay for one night that was within easy driving distance of our primary goal, P. Allen Smith's Moss Mountain Farm. Mostly I was looking for some lodgings in Morrilton or Conway.||||At some point during the search I noticed Petit Jean State Park, The Museum of Automobiles (???) and then . . . The Cedar Falls Motel. I was intrigued. I ran the concept by my wife and she said, "Book it, Dann-o."||||Suffice it to say that this place turned out to be exactly as I hoped it would be and more.||||It's location is perfect. It's set peacefully back off the road and only a short drive from the charming State Park and Mather Lodge, home of an excellent restaurant. If you are coming in from the east, do not miss the Stout's Point Overlook. It is breathtakingly beautiful. ||||The caretaker/custodian of the property does a great job of keeping this bit of history in top shape and the person with whom I made the reservation was very accomodating. We had to change our original reservation to a different day. I was told that we would have to settle for a different room with a smaller bed. Yet, when we actually checked in, we got the one originally agreed upon. ||||If you are looking for something fancy, this might not be the place for you. If you enjoy the experience of spending some time in a place where time has stood still, definitely check out the Cedar Falls Motel/Lodge. You will not be disappointed. I would have enjoyed spending more than one night here, and maybe cooking something outdoors, but we had other places to go.||||Thank goodness for the zoom feature on...

I arrived after 7:30 PM and hadn’t noticed the policy stating that there would be no staff available after 7 PM. When I arrived, I tried calling the number provided, but there was no signal, so I couldn’t notify anyone.
I decided to knock on one of the three doors near the reception. After a few minutes, a man in an obvious state of confusion came out, armed, who initially closed the door, then reopened it and came towards me.
I asked if he was the owner and informed him that I needed to check in. He approached, awkwardly opened the reception, and verbally gave me the code to open the room. Then, as he was already walking away, he added that his wife would clarify everything the next morning.
The room opened with a numeric keypad but didn’t close properly from the inside, making it feel unsafe. Inside, it was relatively clean but full of gnats and mosquitoes.
To top it off, in this eerie atmosphere of a desolate place, the hot water didn’t work. The water pressure was so weak that it didn’t allow for a proper shower after a day out.
There was no point in calling the owner, given the previous encounter. We decided to get back in the...
Read moreOur experience was mixed. The place has apparently changed hands in the last 6 months, so all the high reviews may be inaccurate. Upon arrival within the hours posted as the office being open, no one was there. We were able to locate someone behind the building after ten minutes. The people were fairly nice but did not know we had a reservation. The room looked clean. The building is definitely old, but the room looked freshly painted. The internet is terrible. We could only reliably stay connected when outside. This was kind of important to us, as we had no cell service out there, and we needed to stay in touch with family. We were the only guests there, which was kind of cool, but also a little eerie. If I had been traveling alone, I would have felt very uncomfortable. It was nice that they had a fire pit available to use with firewood. The people that run it were polite, but I wouldn't say they were friendly. Overall, a mixed experience. If internet is not a priority, then it isn't too...
