We checked into the base famcamp on Sunday afternoon knowing that the Outdoor Rec facility was closed thinking they would have a reserved sign on a site with our name. When we got to the camping area and drove around, we finally realized they don't reserve sites for you even though you made a reservation. You just take whatever is open and then let the Outdoor Rec folks know which site you're in when they open. Seemed kind of backwards, especially if you needed a large site and all that was open was short ones. It is sad that the lake area is basically drained and the grass not mowed down and kept trimmed. As a camp Host at other places, we realized there is a lot that could be done to improve the facility. It is too bad that a fairly new campground (2012) was not better managed. We are grateful for the location, close to Denver and lots of attractions. Maybe customer service and improving this site so it is a money maker are not a priority with the command. This place could be so much more with just a little bit of improvement. Mike Snively, LT, USCG (ret). ...
Read moreNo photos because the sign at the gate says no photography. Only open to those with Department of Defense affiliation. Nice, new campground with a lot of space between sites. Concrete sites that are almost level and wide grass space between sites. Grass uncut so not very usable. Some of the roads are too narrow so big rigs are making deep ruts where they go off into the grass. One trash dumpster is not enough so over flowing before it gets emptied. Nice bathroom but why did they decide to put prison style toilets in there? The toilets are one piece stainless steel with no toilet seat. And they're mounted too low. Free laundry but only one washer and one dryer are working. I see that mentioned in previous reviews so management has no sense of urgency to fix the laundry machines. Must sign in at the Outdoor Recreation Office before going to campground. Parking lot too small for big rigs and no nearby open space to park to get registered. There aren't a lot of campground options in the area so we will...
Read moreActually it should be 3.5. For the price, it's great. The base is in Aurora Colorado. There's not much to do on the base and nothing to do at famcamp BUT there is alot to do off base. Big box stores, malls and multiple shopping centers within 5 miles range. If you branch out to Denver, apprx 10 miles away, there's even more to do.
The camp itself has no frills. But is kept well. It can be noisy during the afternoon because of the F16 jets doing their sorties. I liked it because it was like an air show everyday. Many of us would sit watch them do the most amazing maneuvers. Hookups are good. No assigned spot. When you check in, you choose your spot. Picnic table and grill provided. Space size are good size. Pull through and back-in but no trees.
We have been a couple of times...
