Read moreGreat place to camp and hike. We stayed in loop C with our 17ft camper. It appears that all spots inside the loop have electric (30/50/20) and spots on the outside of the loop do not. We didn't see water hookups at sites, but there were several places to refill tanks with potable water.
The bath house was renovated and re-opened in 2024. It's clean and modern. The men's side has 2 toilet stalls and a urinal. Three sinks. The 3 showers have their own changing rooms with lockable doors. There's also a changing area outside the 3 showers that's separated from the toilet area. The bath house also includes a family bathroom with toilet and a shower.
Sites aren't particularly large or secluded but we didn't feel like we were on top of our neighbors. Our site was very level, but we noticed some of the sites would be challenging for a larger rig.
There were a few new mini-cabins on loop C. Those are simply a room with climate control. There are full cabins in a nearby area.
Our camp host was friendly and helpful. We were there the weekend after Halloween and the park facilitated trick-or-treating for the kids.
There are lots of hiking opportunities. A few that will let you summit some of the local Uwharrie peaks, including Morrow Mountain. From the parking near the welcome/ranger station, it's about a 5.3 mile total out-and-back to the top of Morrow. The trail near the mountain is relatively steep. There are also trails that take you to the river/lake that borders the park.
The little museum near the rangers office was interesting. Think grade-school natural history textbook brought to life.
We have Verizon for cell service and signal was weak in most parts of the park. A hike (or drive) to the top of Morrow is your best bet to catch up on notifications/emails if you...
Read moreJust got back from camping. Which is not our first time camping at Morrow Mountain. The water stations are spaced several campsites apart,as none of the sites have individual water hookups.
Got my camper backed in and about to unhook when a fellow camper stops and informs me that the water connection is out of order as well as the next one down. (This affects several campsites). He said to go back to the dumpstation area and use that one, as he did earlier in the day. So I drive over there, not far, really. And that one isn't working either.
So I drive thru the loop and find one that works. Fill up my fresh water tank. Which I had planned on doing after I was set up because the water station was right next to our campsite. Went to the check-in office again and told them about the water issue. The young lady working told me they are aware of the issue, and those stations are out of order. Thank you for telling me when I originally checked in.
Not a deal breaker, Morrow mountain is still a nice place to camp. Reasonably level camper sites with the standard electric hooks ups of 30 and 50 amps. The camp host was very nice, and his dog riding in the gulf cart was always a pleasure to see.
Brand new shower and rest room facility. Which is great! Nice pressure and hot water. Even a locking door on the enormous shower stalls! New cabins in the park also. They can be rented of you don't have another way to camp or just want to...
