Super cool campground. Great location, clean sites and perhaps the cleanest bathrooms we've come across. But, really hard to get a site and it appears the reason is less than savory. No pun intended, there's something fishy going on at the Lone Rock Campground! At least 3 of the best sites; 9, 10, 11 & 13 appear to be occupied longterm. Perhaps the camp host and some friends have a deal. Sites 10 and 13 are set up for the summer with RVs staged well beyond a restful week of camping. But that doesn't even compare to site 11 which is blatantly occupied by an old trailer on blocks with a Ford Ranger sitting on its rims out front. It's quite obvious they're there for more than the maximum 14 days. No big deal except its government property and not intended for squatters! Shame on the host and the USFS for allowing it to go on!

Year-round camping, fishing, picnicking, etc. Primitive RV and tent camping, and during the summer, water is available. There are 2 pit toilets. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit with grill top. It's a beautiful area, and the South Platte River doesn't freeze over here during the winter. Great fishing year round. Keep in mind that there is a fee for camping as well as day use. There is an info board just as you drive into the campground with all the details.

The sites are right on top of each other. People are rude and run car stereos for music while people are trying to enjoy nature. Has running water during warmer months and you can buy wood on site. Did some grilled salmon while listening to someone's car play M&M.

Awesome location. Amazing host (Nicky)! Clean sites, immaculate vault baths, and super friendly host. Nicky turned a tough situation into a great experience... We showed up yesterday to find the gate closed and a road closed sign leading into the site. Super disappointed as other sites nearby were crowded or full, and we had this one on our plan. Went down the road to Deckers and called the number for the North Platte Ranger District. There was no indication that Lone Rock should be 'closed'. So we returned and could see 3-4 occupied campsites. We also found the gate was not locked, nor chained (as they usually are). The gate closes down hill and so we assumed the wind had pushed the gate. We opened it and drove in, intending to find the host and ask. We pulled over to talk to a guy walking a dog who said the site was under construction but was going to open in 2hrs. As we were talking 3 cars pulled in and before we knew it the park was quickly flooded with wanna-be campers. Nicky quickly came around and was very frustrated with what we had just caused. We and the other wanna-be campers were also frustrated since there was no indication on the website nor from the ranger district the site was closed. Nicky handled it perfectly. Instead of turning everyone around, which she easily could have (maybe should have) done, instead, and with a smile and understanding approach, quickly grabbed control and assigned campsites unaffected by the construction being finished. She then came around and we chatted it up a bit. My kids kept commenting, "Wow, she is super nice dad. Why is she so nice to you after you opened the gate?" Haha. "Because she is a nice lady who like to camp and understands our frustration given the nearby full sites." THANK YOU Nicky for setting a great example! And for the clean sites and lavs. We had...

The camp host was friendly, helpful, and professional. The campground was clean and inviting.

One very important note: Directions on Google Maps is wrong-- following them would put you on the wrong side of the river, and there is no bridge; the entire campground is on the north side of the river; the current directions (as of August 1, 2020) has you using "S Y Camp Road" (which is wrong)-- that places you on the south side of the river (the wrong side). Instead, stay on the north side of the river, by taking the "Deckers Road" (Jefferson County Road 126),...
