OK OK - so honestly have to admit that having done many years of traveling I have actually never camped...you know outside, in a tent, on the ground, only a sleeping bag and the supplies you remembered to pack...so when my boyfriend pressured me into going camping with him (basically a "test"), I agreed with a few requirements. The most important being it had to have a "working" bathroom and shower in a pleasant livable environment.||After many hours searching around California state parks sites, he found this location "Hungry Gulch" and since it was free during our weekend in July, he booked it. So glad he did. Right off the bat, we met the great Camp Hosts (I have their names written down somewhere :() who told us to go scope out the sites and pick one, so we did, and they were just a great pleasant laid back couple. We did a little searching and found the perfect spot - up on the hill - almost the farthest back in the camp you can go and secluded from most of the other sites - it had a great working pit, picnic table, nice clear spot with two trees that help create a great little camp site for myself and my BF. Our camp host informed us later that afternoon that we had chosen the site they had termed "honeymooners" which sounded perfect to me as we just wanted a nice quiet weekend. ||Few Bad things to note - farther from most bathrooms then most sites but not a big deal - there was a large family there that weekend who stayed up to 2am making noise (I slept thru it but my BF had a hard time) - not alot of trees for shade so this site got a little hot in the mid-day.||Great Things to Note - HOT showers that felt great, clean bathrooms, newly painted bathrooms, great camp hosts (as I said already), quiet private location that was separated from most other sites.||My boyfriend and I drove around the entire lake and looked at most of the other camping sites in Lake Isabella, we both agreed Hungry Gulch was the best campground with the best facilities - I would definitely go camping again if I got lucky with another...

We stayed here since the site stated they had water, restroom, and a hikijg trail nearby across from the lake. Was not worth the $32 night fee. Got here around 430pm to check in, and the host said to just find a spot, and they'll come by and give us a tag... never happened.

Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 6 am, and since the camp host was gone most of the 1st night (stated they were headed to a football game), there was a big family (over 40 people) there who partied until 2am. Loud music and fighting all night long. Camp host was nowhere to be found and showed up early in the morning and acted as if nothing was going on and continued to do nothing the whole weekend. Most of the time they were MIA and not camp hosting at all.

There are 3 restrooms in total throughout the campsite. The main one by the front had 4 Porta pods out front, and the men were locked, but the ladies were open but gross and not worth the trip to use it. They provided a trashcan in the ladies' restroom, but people still felt the need to pile used tissue and tampons in the corner, and it just got bigger, as the weekend went along.

Most of the campsites are on hills, so you really need to be creative on how you will be setting up your campsite. It's best to drive around and check them out before picking a camping spot for the weekend. Most are in the sun mid day, so be sure to bring a pop-up for shade.

There's a nice hiking trail to an old mine and to Isabella peak to sit and look over at the lake for sunset. The loop is around 3 miles and no hard but steep...

So we had no reservations so i called 2 days before going .::and asked if any sites were available and they said yes theres a few left... but it is first come first serve... and so we arrived thursday morning and got 2 sites the host said only 8 per site and we had 11 people So we paid cash 90$ per site.... the host doesnt check on anyone basically he just collects the money ..restrooms a very dirty the host only takes out the trash doesnt really clean or disinfect anything...and friday night a group of people come to us and tells us that the host told them just look anywere u fit they had made reservations online! And no spotes for them so we were kind and told them it was ok but then we asked the host if we could get a refund for one site and let the people who had site have it. And he said i dont have time for these right now ! And he was drunk the host was drunk! Also when we arrived we asked about camp fires he said nooo... at night we went walking around and people had camp fires so he doesnt check what everyone is doing in a day he only goes arround the site 2 times... and then a group of like 20 people was on the other side of us and they said only 8 per site.... and he doesnt count them .. so next time u come just get one spot and save your money cuz the host could care less how many people u bring every single site is occupied he doesn't care about the virus THE GOOD THING IS THE LAKE ITS SO BIG! Everyday we went we were alone nobody next to us and there a no showers here keep that in mind . We showered with...

Had a great time. Beautiful campground and the couple acting as the camp hosts were very patient and helpful. A little more online explaining the check-in process would be helpful. If you are a light sleeper you might want to bring some ear plugs.
