My mother and I are local to the area, but decided to stay here over Memorial Day weekend for a little getaway. We were able to get last minute reservations that were very reasonably priced for the holiday. The cabin was really cute, it had a comfortable bed, a decent bathroom, and a good little kitchen area with a mini fridge. There was a screened-in porch area where you could sit and enjoy some fresh air without having to worry about bugs. There were also some nice little chairs and a picnic table outside as well. The cottage comes with its own heater, which works really well, but no AC. There is a fan. AC isn't really needed in Maine most of the time though. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. I spoke with the wife on several occasions, and they were both constantly going around and doing things for upkeep around the place. There's fresh coffee in the office every morning, and they also try to make sure there's ice if you ask as well. In terms of location, it's right in between Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, which provides convenience for exploring in either location. Overall it was an excellent stay, and I commend the owners for the hard work that they constantly put in. Everything...
Read moreMy husband and I spent the weekend after Columbus day here and it was just lovely. It's very clean and quite comfortable. The host, Richard, it a wealth of knowledge about the local area. We stayed in the hotel section. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was spotless. The shower is a "camp" shower and is quite small, however, had we wanted a Jacuzzi size tub, we would have spent three times as much and gone to one of the large hotels in Bar Harbor. The office has coffee available from 8am. If you want some before that, head back off the island and there's a gas station with a great snack bar and coffee about a mile back on the left. Great coffee there! About 30 cents less a gallon for gas than on the island as well.
The motel is about a 10 minute walk to the free shuttle which runs through Acadia, so a great place if you're there for hiking. Once the road construction is done, it'll be about 15 minutes to Bar Harbor. Definitely a great place to stay if you want to stay within your budget and want to avoid the crazy hubbub of a large hotel. We will choose to stay here...
Read moreWe rented cottage #2 for 3 nights. It is a basic cottage with 2 rooms, bathroom, microwave and dorm size fridge. We knew there would be no AC. We brought a fan. It also ended up being unseasonably warm. It was plenty cool enough for us at night. My husband and kids are AC people - they survived! Very clean and well stocked. WiFi is fine. If you’re expecting to stream it isn’t good for that, but it is suitable for anything else. For us, we were out here to enjoy the park - so that wasn’t important. There is cable and there are TV’s. Phone service is fine here - for us. I’m just sharing based on others reviews. In town that is a whole different story - it is basically none existent [you are much better off out here!!]. The pool was warm! We would absolutely stay here again. The owners are wonderful people. We stayed at 2 other places on the way here and this was the BEST!
If you show up here and end up unhappy - that is on you. Do your research and look for what is suitable for you and/or your family. Don’t come here to leave a bad review or read reviews after the fact. That’s...
