This was our first trip out to 9E after looking at photos for years. It's hard to pick my favorite thing about 9E Ranch. We stayed in Eagle's Nest, which was a beautiful and cozy cabin with an amazing view. We enjoyed sitting in the rockers first thing in the morning, eating our muffins and enjoying the large window, or cozying up on the couch at night to read.
The ponies and donkey stole our hearts the first day, and apparently they enjoyed us just as much. There's nothing like walking up to their pasture, only to have Nola start braying at you and the whole group come running up to the fence!! We sat out there at least once every day and got to love on them and be loved by them.
We did the roughly two mile hike around the property in search of the longhorns. I recommend wearing comfy but durable shoes and bringing water with you. The path gets a little hard to distinguish at times, but if you hug the fence it brings you right back to the ponies. Unfortunately we didn't catch the longhorns during the hike, but it was a perfect day (about 70 outside, sunny, with a light breeze!) and the hike alone was lovely. Kent went out with me the next morning to help me find them. They are a sight to behold!
The quiet of the proper country provided the perfect getaway for us- we're from Houston and more than needed the stark change in atmosphere.
We can't wait to come back and stay again! Joan and Kent are two of the kindest, most helpful people.
Word of warning to those using digital GPS to make their way to the ranch: Waze actually had us overshoot it and turn into the next ranch over. Keep your...

We were well pleased when we first approached the cabin on the outside. We got inside the cabin, no doubt, we selected the perfect place to spend the weekend getaway with rain and sunshine. The cabin inside was very comfortable, décor was awesome to the paintings by Joan Bohls. The Bohls left us homemade muffins and fresh yard eggs in the refrigerator for breakfast. We relaxed in the living room with the ability to look out the east, west, and north full windows. We visited Smithville and Bastrop Main Streets, both 10 miles away from the cabin. On our last day, we visited Kent and Joan Bohls, very warm, very friendly and down home couple. On our last day before check out, we took a hike around the property, ran into miniature donkeys, miniature horses, white tail deer, rabbits, found the longhorns, horses, and the scenery with fresh air was awesome. Sandy and I do plan to make future plans to stay at the Eagle's Nest-9E Ranch Cabins and time...
Read moreWhen you stay at 9E ranch cabins, you get a taste of ranch life with the blessings of modern living. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by two long horns and a donkey. The animals looked very comfortable and happy as they had plenty of space to roam that was separated from the drive up to the cabin. ||||I was in Eagles Nest cabin and it was beautiful. It had a rustic look with an amazing view into the forest. There was wifi, heat and a level of silence this city slicker isn't really used to. ||||Joan and Kent were very kind and respectful people. The asked if I had time for a visit and swung by to chat a little bit. They have owned this space for a number of years and have made something truly incredible with it. They also had some great suggestions for BBQ that was in town. ||||I didn't get a chance to see the stars as it was cloudy but I do not doubt the view would've been amazing as you can see that you are far from city lights. ||||I wish I stayed there longer but I was only in town for the night. I highly suggest staying there. The bed was comfy. The shower was hot. Overall a...
