I'm disappointed to aay the least. I first came here last year in mid-march, about the time the pandemic started. And I absolutely loved it here. I only had one real complaint, and that was that there weren't enough trails to bike, as I had biked all the trails within my first day. But that wasn't a big problem as I could just bike them all again. I came back today expwcting the same thing, but to my dismay, the forests surrounding the Heron Trail, Swift Trail, Loblolly Loop, and Gideon Loop were all decimated. What was once a dense forest with lots of brush was now a sparse woodland, with no brush or low lying trees at all. I loved it when it had all the shade covering the trail, as I absolutely love forest trails. I can understand cutting down some of the brush around the trail, but this went beyond that, removing brush and trees from the ENTIRE forest area, removing what I loved about the trail. I haven't chexked rhe north/south trailway yet, but I will solm to see if the same thing was done to it. I would love to have an explanation to why this happened. If the explanation is valid (e.g. invasive species clearing or forest fire) I will gladly take down the negative part of this, as I am an understanding person. But for now, I will keep this up.
Edit: I finally had a look at the NS Trailway and Gideon Loop. The NS Trailway is exactly as I remember it, and should not be changed. Fisherman's Loop did have some brush clearing, but not so much that the entire forest was devastated. I support that, as it was quite crowded with brush there anyway. Gideon Loop is partially unaffected. The inside portion of the loop has been left untouched, while the some of the outside has been cleared. I will have added some pictures of the what Swift Trail and Loblolly Loop look like now and comparisons of what they looked...
Read moreDON'T CHOOSE CABIN #52!! First let me share that the park as a whole is great - especially the day use area. However, I'm reviewing cabin site #52. Beds, as I've already seen reviewed, are rock hard. Although I paid what every other cabin guest paid for a waterfront cabin, all other waterfront cabins not only have a view of the lake, but also an access point to the water. Not cabin #52. The 1st two pics I attached are the view and up close to the water (no access). The 2nd two pics are from the next cabin over (#53) - #53 is representative of all other cabins. Yep, I resent paying the same price for cabin #52 as the other guests paid for their real waterfront cabins. Cherry on top: While checking out I told the staff person that particular cabin needs to be cleared and brought to the same level so that guests in cabin #52 could actually enjoy the waterfront paid for. Maybe she didn't really know what to say (would have been best if she said nothing). So she said that they kept it like that for guests who don't want direct access to the water (come on, really? Did you just say that?). Then she said we should have used one of our neighbors access areas.1) I'm not one to intrude on someone else's space and 2) even if I were, there was a pontoon boat moored at one neighbor's space and kayaks tied up at our other neighbor's space. Bottom line - don't...
Read moreWe just wanted a couple days away from real life.. This was a great place to go. It's not a state park, but seems to look a lot like one. We stayed in our RV on the camping loop.. this is a very quiet and peaceful area. This place is nothing like a "RV Park" with rows of RV almost touching each other. Each site is kind of tucked away with trees and underbrush blocking the views between campsites. Ours had 50A electricity and water. Some are full hookups, and some of the lots back right to the lake.. or a portion of the lake. Check out their web site, more to do there than just camping. Overnight use, cabins to rent,... as well as a good day trip. The public restrooms were very clean with good cold and hot water pressure. The overall campgrounds and the whole park are kept up nicely. Very clean everywhere you look. Pets are welcome.. but if they poop, you need to scoop. ||There is a small store with a few items for purchase, including filtered water and ice.||The dump station is nearby for those without full hook ups. two receptacles to hook up to.. so there was never a line for the station. I tried to fish.. no luck for me, but I saw other fishers doing better. Pricing was maybe a little higher than a State Park, but it was...
