Ok….. first off I just want to say our guide Jerry was great! A great guy that has great stories and life tales. We booked an all day fishing trip with Jack’s. The day of the trip we arrived and it was pouring rain. No big deal as we went and grabbed breakfast until it quit. Got back to the dock and went out and had a fun day. Caught some fish and had some good conversation. The problem here really lies in the office. When booking the trip you leave a small deposit to hold your reservation . No biggie. You pay the remaining balance after the trip. When on the phone making the reservation I was told a price “Plus bait and tackle that never goes over $10”. Being a charter captain for many years I’d personally have never heard of this before but figured maybe that’s the way it is here so I blew it off. The morning of the trip I went to the office a bit early to ask in person about “Plus bait and tackle.” and was told again it would be around $10. So when I went to pay the balance “bait and tackle” came out to $40 or so. They itemized the bill and had charged me for $22 in “spinners” saying we had used 10. @ 2.20 each. We used 2 total all day. Each little spinner rig had a TINY split shot sinker on it too. They charged me $2.60 each for these. And my son had to ask for one because he didn’t his $2.60 sinker until a few hours had passed. The cans of corn were a few bucks each and the shrimp (that’s right……… I said shrimp) were $3 a bag. I feel this was a bit extreme ESPECIALLY after being told bait would be no more than $10. Like I stated above the fishing was a blast but these hidden “bait and tackle” fees were just not right. Being a charter captain I feel they should just bump the trip up $50 to cover this (as all other fishing charters do) and quit ripping people off at the register. It’s an old tourist ambush tactic that still seems to be used at Jack’s. They provide the rods too but we had our own. But one of the two they provided had the tip broken off but we never used their fine equipment. My advice is to steer clear of the fishing aspect of Jack’s White River...
Read moreI visited with my husband, son, my mom and dad, we had joining rooms. There was an enclosed porch area facing the White River. The view was beautiful.||||The resort itself is out of date, they need to do repairs and paint. Even though we were only there two nights, we requested room service not needed, they told my husband that it was required, they had to come, for what reason I'm not sure, they emptied trash and made the bed...... they left dirty sheets on the bed from the night before (dirt from our feet were in the bed the next night), they didn't clean the floors, wasp and flies we killed were still there. My mom and dads bathroom sink would not drain, when maintenance came to plunge it out, it was the most nastiest junk in there, maintenance said who knows when it was cleaned last. GROSS!!!||||Upon arrival to our room it looked like someone had chunked balls of mud at our door, it was not ever cleaned off while we were there. The rooms are very out of date. The bed was comfortable but everything needs to be updated.||||My dad took a really bad fall our last night there, the next day Sherry (I believe it was) checked on him. She and the man at the front was really nice. Everyone was nice except our waitress in the restaurant, she had short brown hair, she was very rude and rushy to not just us but her other customers as well.||||All in all, I would like to visit again once they do some updating to the place, not up to par for the price at all. The dock area and boats... well, I wouldn't want to go out in some of...
Read moreMy sister's and I spent 3 nights and 4 days at Jack's in the 2 bedroom 3 (!!) bathroom cottage. It was amazing! The MH cottage sits on a hill above the White River. We watched the fog roll in and out through the large windows off the sitting/dining area. It is an old house, but we loved the charm and the views! Out the back door was a fire pit with plenty of seating. There was a grill and 2 picnic tables. This cottage would easily sleep 14 people. It has a full kitchen (bring your own paper products) with pots, pans, dishes, silverware....everything, but food and beverages.||We fished off the dock but didn't catch anything, but had we, the dock hand 'Roy' would have cleaned and fillet them for us. We did see an otter family right off the end of the dock as well. So, beautiful! ||Even though MH Cottage is right near the road; we could not hear anything from inside. I slept like a baby all three nights. ||'Uncle Dave', in the office was such a hoot! ||There is a play area for the kids, and a basketball court (outdoor). They also have spaces for RV's and an onsite restaurant. There is another cabin and hotel rooms.||If you want you want you can rent a canoe, raft or guided fishing tour. All right there! Didn't bring your fishing gear... they will rent some to you. ||JoJo's Restaurant is onsite and is a great place to eat.||I would...
