Andrew Steele famously said two years ago that Hearthside Grove (HSG) is the prettiest RV park in America, and it was true. ||I found the resort to be warm and inclusive; after five glorious days of renting -- nobody ever pressured us into buying -- we pulled the trigger and became lot owners.||We knew from the start the rules: Class A coaches only, no gas carts or ATVs, no political antics. Strict rules about site design and landscaping.||This year, as the Board of Directors scrambled to address excursions its intended design, HSG started to change. Dirt bikes and ATVs prowled the neighborhood every few nights, extremist political flags were hoisted and trailed parading ATVs. One staff member moved a stacker trailer emblazoned with an extremist political candidate's name into the clubhouse parking lot to greet fifty incoming luxury coach brand rally attendees. That sparked a fistfight which brought in police and led to arrests. ||As a result, on forums and via private communications I advised minority and LGBTQ friends and family to avoid visiting.||As if on cue, Steele himself came and made a second video, one that is darkly political and basically warns off a segment of the motorhome-owning public. Both offerings are posted on YouTube.||That second video is clearly not who we are nor intend to be in the future. ||To those hoping to visit this paradise located on picturesque Little Traverse Bay I'd advise to be patient, and see how the 2025 season pans out. 'Come 2026, I'm hoping that Hearthside Grove is once again a welcoming destination where all visitors feel...
Read moreThis is more of a high value Motorhome subdivision than it is an RV resort. The park itself is beautiful and sites are large, level, and generally private. However the park seems to be predominantly seasonal homes for snowbirds. Most sites have anything from a tiny house to a small home in addition to a large pad for their RV to be parked on. You will not get the RV park sensation while staying here - it's more like staying in a residential subdivision. Although a few residents were cordial they were the exception. We went to a function at the clubhouse and felt invisible even though others were gathered in small groups socializing. Cable is not included for rental sites (even though cable hook up is in place). I was told the HOA board did not approve cable for rental sites by 1 person; another said that the cable provider Spectrum had an issue with extending service to rental sites. I've never been in a park where cable was provided - especially one at these prices - that would only give it to seasonals/owners. Don't count on using a satellite because most lots the angle to connect will be obscured with trees. They suggested "streaming" video but the wi-fi connection in the park was weak at best - I finally used my phones hotspot instead of their site just to get on internet to check email, FB, etc. Can't imagine trying to stream a program or movie. The RV grounds and sites are beautiful but general atmosphere is cold. Probably...
Read moreThis is a beautiful resort, well laid out, large lots and plenty of landscaping. Most of the lots are owner occupied by very high end coaches. Our site had a gas firepit, but nothing else, not even a picnic table. Further back in the facility they are building a great many new lots with tiny homes, and there was a fair amount of construction traffic, odd since there was a back entrance that could have brought them into their work spots without driving through the park. Reservation system was a little odd, it seems there is/was both an owners page, and a developers page which don't seem to interact with each other. We got to their entry gate, but had not been given the code. We called the number on the box which was the developer who would not, or could not let us in. We're stuck there with a motor home, and toad, and I can't back up when connected. We waited around for about 20 minutes trying to figure out what to do when someone in a truck came along, knew the code, and let us in. Once in the park there was no one to check us in, we just had to find out spot in this winding park. Also, no area near entry to hook/unhook toad. Great place, but these items took it down from 5 stars to 4. The Ciderpress club looks great, but in reality it's like many others with a weight room, meeting room and...
