RENTER BEWARE! First, let me say the cabin was beautiful and we had a great two night stay at Dreamscape. TWO days after our stay I received an email asking me for a review for our stay. I gave a glowing review and was pleased to do so. FIVE days after our check out I get an email saying my credit card was charged $85. I assume it's a mistake. After the email with the charge, I get a second email stating "Hope you enjoyed your stay...we are charging you for damage done to the drywall, etc." WAIT A MINUTE, I am being charged for damages to your cabin. We DID NOT damage the walls in this cabin. We treated it as our own home. We followed the cleaning check out procedures to a T. They included photos of the damages - but nowhere can you even place the photo as the cabin we stayed in. There was also no date or time stamp on photo to prove it was taken when we checked out. I checked out FIVE days earlier. This cabin is booked solid - maybe it was the people after us - its FIVE days later! I immediately picked up the phone to discuss the problem with Leah - who could not provide me with proof of when the photo was taken - other than the cleaning lady took it. I'm sure the cleaning lady cleans a lot of cabins in one day and over a course of a week. How is anyone to know if this was the right cabin or the right guests? I was not happy with the situation, but in their eyes it's our word over theirs. She knew I was unhappy and said she would have Hunter call me back to discuss. I waited 24 hours and never heard from Hunter. What's interesting is their rental agreement says to report damage immediately to them, but they don't have the courtesy or professionalism to let me know there was a problem for FIVE days and they couldn't respond to my call of concern either. I did send them an email the next day citing my concerns with their poor customer service, inconsistent policies and lack of timely communication. Sadly, this whole ordeal has overshadowed any of my positives thoughts about the cabin and our visit to the area. We will NEVER use this company again. There are too many choices in the area and other places to spend my valuable time and money. So my advice is if you book with this company, video tape your departure or photograph every room and wall - because you might be charged for something you didn't do FIVE days after you checked out and will have no recourse to get your money back -since they have your credit card on file and justify their actions with emails and photos of walls that could have been from anywhere! I hope this doesn't happen to you. ...
Read moreOur initial experience working with one of the supervisors with Stayover was not a good experience. Details of the issues we had are below. However, I am amending this review with how the company owner handled these concerns once he was notified of the issues below. The owner was very apologetic and stated that how this was handled did not meet the company's standards. He gave us a full refund of our reservation and invited us to stay in one of his cabins this year, which was a very generous offer. He assured us that additional training and re-training would take place as well. I appreciate this service recovery very much and wanted to be sure others knew that this company took ownership of making this right as well as making improvements where needed.
Their cleaning of the Whispering Winds cabin was poor with regard to the bed linens. There were flakes, chip crumbs, and hairs on two of the three beds. They stated they will refund the $55 cleaning fee. While that is appreciated, we also had a major issue with mouse droppings on the kitchen countertop and floor, under the kitchen sink, and in the bathroom. We arrived around 9pm on our first of two nights. My husband saw the mouse run out from behind the water heater in the bathroom and then run back behind it. I called and left a detailed message asking that someone call me back right away to address the problem (per their instructions for emergencies). I also sent an email. There was no response until 9am the next day. They offered for a cleaning crew to come in and remove the mouse droppings and leave some traps. I told them we wanted to not stay the 2nd night as there were now more droppings from overnight, the automatic faucet in the kitchen sink was triggered by the mouse twice overnight, and there were now wood shavings in two places in the bathroom from the mouse trying to get out or in... I requested to be refunded for the 2nd night and they refused. The company supervisor stated she remained firm and would not provide any refund and continued to defend their position. My request was reasonable as I was not asking to have both nights refunded, just the one night despite all the issues during the night we chose to stay. And we only stayed the first night because of how late it was and our young kids needed to get to sleep after a long day of hiking. There was nothing relaxing about our stay. We were distracted, disgusted, and unable to sleep due to the dirty beds and mouse leaving its waste all over the cabin. It was cold, and we did not feel comfortable sleeping...
Read moreWe spent five nights in Sundance Cabin at Birch Hollow cabins. The cabin was very nice, although we do have a few recommendations about fixing some minor problems: Get a new bed frame for the bed in the queen/bunk room. You wake yourself up just turning over becasue the frame squeaks terribly. Also, get a fitted sheet that fits. The one on the bed came off all night long. Put a drain stopper in the bathroom sink -- someone (almost me) is going to lose jewelry, contact lenses, makeup, etc in that open drain. Get a few rubber backed scatter rugs for the floors so the dog doesn't slide and fall all the time. More than 2 teaspoons and 3 wine glasses would be nice, and some decent sized coffee mugs rather than those little coffee cups would be great. More plates, bowls, glasses -- if you have a party of 4 or 6, you will have to wash dishes and tableware after every meal or you will run out. Throw away those chipped plates on the top shelf. Left front burner on the stove doesn't' work The carpenter/wood bees are eating the ceiling rafters on the back porch over the hot tub. If you turn the ceiling fan on high, it keeps them away temporarily... Don't take that trail next to the cabin up the mountain unless you are a serious hiker. We got lost since the trails further up are unmarked, and spent 3 hours on the mountain. Elevation goes up 730 feet in about a 1.5 miles -- it's steep and grueling. We finally came out at a cemetery near a road and asked a local resident for directions back to Birch Hollow. The map they give you doesn't begin to point out the steep climb and switchbacks on that trail. We considered calling for rescue after coming to an deep ravine with no way to cross that caused some serious backtracking. P.S. There is no mountain view up on top.... just more trees. On a positive note, the office staff is friendly and is very responsive. We needed batteries for the tv remote and they brought them in a few hours. Also, the cabin was very clean and well stocked with towels, dish and laundry soap, paper towels, tp, shampoo, bar soap. There are corn hole boards on the porch -- the bags are in one of the closets. We left a nice tea kettle on the stove that we forgot to pack…. One more thing: If you are a geocacher, there are many Earth Caches in Red River Gorge and Daniel Boone Nat'l...
