This hotel has gone down hill quickly and the entire staff is actually quite questionable and makes people very uneasy. Ive been staying here for over 20 years regularly because it has always been comfortable and close to my family in the area. Ive known the managers well for over 20 yrs including Lisa, Karen Lilly, and Geraldine due to the frequency of my visits to the area. Never had any major issues until the last few visits. Since Melissa Taylor has been managing this location it has became very ran down, rooms in dis-repair, and always seems to be a crowd of people loitering around the hotel that make us very uncomfortable. My last visit was beyond horrible. I made a reservation for the week of christmas over a month in advance. When I arrived at the hotel to check in, the smell of marijuana in the lobby was so overwhelming it was nauseating. Then an employee named Lisa walked up to the counter and she was visibly under the influence of something. She could barely communicate amd hold her eyes open. She never even greeted me even after I spoke to her when she walked up. After minutes of looking at the computer screen she finally said, "I dont have anything available except 1 king bed". I was traveling with a friend and the reservation was for a room with 2 beds. After I asked a couple questions about the "unavailability of a room" with a reservation for over a month, Lisa immediately flipped out. She started shouting at me saying I dont know what to tell you, I just dont know! She continued being confrontational even though I was never rude or disrespectful to her in any way. She just kept on and on then finally said, "well we just dont have any rooms clean, so you can either take that room or just leave". Keep in mind this was at 10:30pm! By this time, 2 other people walked in to check as well, and this lady is standing there going in on me acting like I did something wrong. She embarrassed me to the point of disbelief. All I asked was if she could please contact Melissa who is the general manager since I knew Melissa knows who I am from talking to her every time i come there. Lisa said no, she was not calling the manager but I could just leave or she would call the police. I have no words. Never in my life have I been treated so bad for no fault of my own. I asked to please have Melissa be sure to call me the next day to discuss this and get to the bottom of it, and I left to get a room somewhere else in town. Melissa (THE GENERAL MANAGER) didnt care enough to even return a phone call to me about it. Its not like Im a total stranger or had no history of staying there. Im actually a diamond member with choice hotels and will never stay with choice hotels in this area again. I called the corporate phone # for Choice Hotels and got nowhere. The issues were never addresssed and I was told there is nobody to escalate this to since each property is managed independently. Ive never heard anything like this before. Everybody has a boss! I will not let this go, i will go up to the CEO of choice hotels myself if needed. Sometimes you have to make an example of people when you are mistreated and I fully intend to pursue this regardless of what it takes. Come to find out Melissa actually documented derogatory comments on my customer profile with untrue statements saying the police were called on me and saidbI was put on a "do not rent" list. I am in total disbelief and have been made aware I can actually pursue Melissa and the employee Lisa for slander and defamation of character for making false statements (and documenting on my profile) false information about me causing harm to my character and reputation. I would honestly not reccomend trying to stay at Sleep Inn Beaver, WV until they replace Melissa with an experienced manager who actually cares about the hotel and its customers like the many managers before her did. Its honestly hard to believe choice hotels would allow something this serious and despicable to continue to happen. They're setting themselves up for a really bad situation...
Read moreThis hotel is in desperate need of cleaning and remodeling. Beginning first with what is near the hotel... nothing. Literally nothing. Not fast food, restaurants, and only one gas station as an option. Spend the extra money and stay in Beckley. Upon check in, the desk clerk asked for my ID which I had already put on the counter for her. When she asked, I went to pick it up and she apologized saying, "I don't even look up anymore." A desk clerk who doesn't even greet customers or can be bothered to give eye contact is one who probably shouldn't be the first person someone sees when they enter your business. Keys were giving to me wrapped in a post it note with my room number. The public areas felt like they had no air conditioning or they keep set to such a high temperature that it was actually a relief to step back into the July heat. My room had several issues. The bed spread was stained with a blackish circle (pictured), furniture is in need of updating or repair, and the shower has a bizarre bright white liner in the bottom of the yellow tinted shower. To make matters concerning, the liner literally had cracks in it and is tearing away from the wall so it wasn't really doing whatever it was meant to do. When stepping on this liner, it wasn't laid flat with the shower base and is bubbling up in places. I could actually see the floor depress with every step. The air conditioner in the room sort of worked. I had it set to 65 which felt fine before bed but woke sweating with no blankets on because either it stopped overnight, or 65 on the machine was more like 72. I set it to 61 and it cooled some more, but even so, it still felt hot in the room and was a very uncomfortable night. I attempted to get a drink of water at some point but the faucet only produces hot water, even at 1am. I let it run 15 minutes and still only get it down to warm. I took my water bottles and filled them and had to stick them in the mini fridge freezer. By morning, they were room temperature which means the mini fridge also has issues, aside from the giant ice chunk which made accessing the freezer area next to impossible. The breakfast room is a closet with nothing but cereal. I opted out of their delicacies and drove to a fast food place down the highway.
Needless to say, I won't be back. I've stayed at several sleep inns and am I diamond choice rewards member. Someone should visit this hotel and remove them from the choice platform or begin immediate updating. Regardless, they've lost my future...
Read moreTLDR; this hotel is dirty and our room had bed bugs (as of 09/20/2023) I wasn't expecting much from this hotel, I knew it was a one night stop-over and it wasn't ideal, but ultimately would be fine for one night. The stairs and hallway leading to our room smelled horribly of industrial strength cleaning chemicals as if they were trying to cover up another smell. Our room was musty to the point that the carpet felt moist, there were piles of dust and dirt in corners, and everything had a layer of dust on it like it had not been cleaned recently. The hotel also allows pets in every room, and had some dog hair embedded in the carpet. Not ideal, but these are things I was willing to overlook. We checked in around 9pm, by the time we got back from dinner and settled in for bed around 12:30am we found bed bugs crawling on the wall directly beside the bed. We packed up our belongings and went down to the front desk. We didn't feel comfortable staying in another room and decided to leave. The person at the front desk at this hour didn't have the authority to give us a refund, then at 1am we had to drive around looking for a hotel that had vacancy and ended up having to pay double the amount. Since I booked through Expedia for TD, they had to contact the hotel on my behalf for a refund. After multiple tries, Sleep Inn refused any form of a refund or compensation. I had to contact their corporate (Choice Hotels) to open a case, and they were able to eventually offer me just a partial refund via wire transfer at the base value of the room, which ends up being about $40 less than what I paid. I'm extremely unimpressed with the lack of responsibility that the hotel took. Bed bugs should always warrant a...
