Why would anyone not want to choose a charming historic B&B over a cookie cutter hotel for approximately the same price? Taylor House Inn’s 99.00 (and up, depending on the room) per night for a weekday was less or about the same the most of the lower rated hotels in the immediate vicinity, and considerable less than many. And it includes a homemade breakfast. We chose the less expensive room since we were only staying one night in The Flower Cottage. It was clean and neat and prettily decorated. No regrets what so ever. We had never stayed in a detached cottage before, and we enjoyed the privacy. The house was old and beautiful and the setting was beautiful. The drive was breathtaking. the toiletries provided were perfect, and we appreciated the fridge which came stocked with soft drinks and water. The robes were the best. I wish I would have bought one.!
The manager (owner?) was very nice and friendly. She called to confirm the day before and to share some useful information. The morning we left, she called to let us know that the room was ready and we could check in whenever we wanted. That was very kind and thoughtful. There were cookies, tea, and a desert bread available in the main house if we wanted which was accessible anytime. Had the key she gave us worked. Oh well, we didn't try to use it until morning anyway when she was there making breakfast.
Full disclosure: There are no TVs in the rooms if that is important to you. Although there was one in the main house. The breakfast was very small,...
Read moreLet me first say that if you are on the fence about which B&B to choose for this area, look no farther, this is most certainly the place to stay. The owners, Tessa and Bernard, are absolutely wonderful! Bernard can plan your day with ease, pointing out all of the wonderful sites and attractions to visit during your stay, complete with a map and highlighted route so you can head out on your worry free day. Tessa can you tell you about all the wonderful restaurants in the area, and believe me you will want to stop by each one! We stayed in the Flower Cottage for 3 nights, and it was very cute and quaint and fit our needs well. It was cleaned every day and smelled fresh, we liked having our own little area just to ourselves. We also enjoyed coming into the main house and having the most delicious breakfast in the morning, and visiting with Tessa and Bernard, which these two are a hoot, before heading out for the day. Tessa I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations, you are very loving and heart warming and just an all around genuine person. They have a sign that says, " You enter as guests and leave as friends". I believe for us it was you enter as guests and leave as family, because they made us feel like we were home with family. I can honestly say that I didn't want to leave! Thank you Tessa and Bernard, and my husband and I look forward to seeing you...
Read moreWe just came home from our second stay at the Taylor House Inn. Our first stay was the weekend of the Highland Games in 2017. One of the guests practiced his bagpipe on the front law in the mist of the fog after a summer rain shower. We will never forget this experience. This weekend, we were greeted by Tesse and Bernard as old friends. Tesse treated us to home cooked French -flared breakfasts each morning surprising us with poached peaches, homemade peach croissants, fresh rice pudding, breakfast casserole, fresh savory waffles, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce with all the coffee and juice we could consume. After returning from hiking and sightseeing, we were met with a homemade pound cake and drinks. In the early afternoons, cheese and wine were at the ready. We enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to the birds and watching a deer family run through the yard. Our room was warm and inviting. The bed was layered with soft sheets and blankets. Our bathroom came furnished with the essential soaps, towels, and a small refrigerator stocked with water bottles and sodas and chips and snack bars. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back again in the near future. Thank you, Tesse and Bernard. Paula...
