The Lakeside West cabin is nice with a view of the pond below through the trees. This is a great alternative to camping and is perfect for 3 couples with the 3 ensuites. The beds were comfortable and there was a lot of storage in the bedroom and bathroom. The cabin will be tight for more than 6 people as the kitchen is compact and the dining room seats a maximum of 6. There is a hot tub, bbq and ample outdoor furniture to congregate. There were also scenic seating areas around the pond and also kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. Hiking to Tumalo Falls is a plus and the location is also convenient to Bend for inner tubing, restaurants, etc.
What tarnished our experience is one of the owners, Bill. On one night around 10:30 pm the fire alarm blared out at multiple intervals after half of us were asleep. When he arrived about an hour later, he was rude, impatient, condescending and basically unprofessional. He seemed to blame us for something that was really a maintenance issue on his part. He never apologized for our inconvenience, but was more concerned about his own rest. One does not expect this from a host especially when paying a certain amount. Perhaps his interpersonal skills are not so developed and the other owner (who seemed friendlier) should interface with guests in the future.
The water pressure is a bit low and the dining chairs need more support as one sinks into the seat and sits uncomfortably low. Although it is mentioned in their manual, it is worth noting that the wi-fi is intermittent and sluggish. It may be a positive to have a break from technology, but for those who need to be connected, it may be an issue.
The rating for the cabin and location is 4 stars and the one owner...
Read moreWe stayed at the Tumalo Lake West cabin. The location is spectacular with lake and valley views. It is quite isolated with trail access to Tumalo Falls. There are canoes and kayaks and paddle boards to use on the lake.
The cabin has three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. Dining room seating is for six or possibly eight. The kitchen and pantry are adequate but could be larger for such an isolated retreat. Bend in 20 to 30 minutes away. Deck seating is plentiful. Living area seating was cramped for six. Wifi, as mentioned in the materials, is slow at best with daily complete outages that lasted for hours. It would be impossible to expect Zooming or streaming there, so it would be a good place to unplug.
I would give the overall experience four stars. If you have to deal directly with the owner, that number can go down to zero. We had a fire alarm issue in the middle of the night, and the owner Bill was not pleasant to deal with at midnight. Of course one cannot expect to wait until the morning to fix a constantly blaring fire alarm, though that was implied after Bill was able to show up and rectify the issue (sans apology for OUR awakening). If you are able to check in and check out without dealing with Bill, I would imagine that you would have a great time. If possible, deal with Bill's wife, who seemed much...
Read moreOur group, the “8 Guys” just finished our 16th annual golf trip together staying at the Tumalo lake Lodge. Without question this was a terrific choice, 8 bedrooms with private baths, the most comprehensive and well stocked place any of us have ever stayed in, it’s a wonderfully upscale casual environment. Nothing is left to the “wish they had” list, it’s all there, and so peaceful, the most noise we had were the birds. I can’t wait to take my family back, enjoy the lake, the lake front patio, all the “toys” for the lake, the wonderful walk around it, the hot tubs and sauna, and for sure the fabulous patios. Kitchen is a cooks dream. All of us agreed this was our best trip ever, largely due to the Lodge. Plus Tracey is so responsive and easy...
