Hilltop Mansion — Hotel in Berlin Township

I booked the hilltop mansion as a regular stay and made the mistake of not mentioning to them that I wanted to have a short ceremony with a few extra people on the property. We took FULL responsibility for the error because we were trying to replan our wedding in a hurry due to COVID.

Tom told us we either had to pay $10,000 or he would cancel our stay. We said we would follow the contract fully and cancel the ceremony - to which he said wasn’t an option anymore because he didn’t trust us (which is horrible business to threaten to cancel us even though we were willing to follow his rules) . We had no choice but to cough up the money or lose $6k in deposits. We signed an event contract that said we’d get insurance and security among other things, but we were then asked to get our own million dollar event insurance and there was no security in sight. Karen was also helpful until we signed the new contract, she went from taking a few hours to respond to literally 5-7 days. We felt so ripped off and played by them because they were trying to say we were trying to breach contract and then they didn’t provide anything they promised.

Not only that but the house was underwhelming. There were dead bugs and dirty dishes in the guest house. My elderly grandma had to sleep on the couch at my wedding ... that I paid well into 5 figures for. Matt even ADMITTED to not having the place cleaned. The game room also broke down so the games, bar and a bathroom were left unusable for the whole 4 days we were there. Some of my family also mentioned feeling like Matt was snooping around while he was “watering the plants” ... which is something another reviewer on the booking site mentioned.

I was so disappointed by the quality of the stay and the additional price for literally nothing. Tom will respond to every negative review to defend himself but not thank a single person for a 5 star review. Because of this horrible and unappreciative service, I refuse to return and have not recommended it to anyone that has asked about our...

The house is absolutely gorgeous exactly as shown on the pictures. You feel like you in fairytale! Everybody have what to do every minute of the day. We went with a group of 26.., 13 of those Were kids, no one even felt presence of the kids ! they were running from one activity to another from hot tub to pool and more. This property is like your own private hotel! And the surrounding is gorgeous! Short drive from there Delaware river which is amazing edition . All the amenities new, clean and high quality. In the kitchen there is more than enough dishes and utilities! We were worried that some of the utilities will be needed and brought with us but we really didn’t need them they have everything you can think of! The owners are very easy and Pleasure to handle with... responding very quickly and very nice people! Karen and Matt did everything they could to help any question and any matter we had. We really felt in good hands. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone and can’t wait...

We rented the Hilltop Castle, Mansion, and Lodge for 88 grad students and had such a great time. It was a lovely way to celebrate our graduation. Matt and Tom were really helpful and great to work with. Karen answered all our questions regarding the properties. I recommend being transparent with the owners about the number of people attending and the intended use of the venue, as they are happy to help you make your event dreams come to life. This is the second time I’ve rented one of the Hilltop properties and I highly recommend renting one or more Hilltop venues for a graduation or other type of celebration. The Castle is especially unique. It’s clear that the owners put a lot of effort into creating these properties and we loved the thoughtful details and amenities available. Thank you for making our...
