This place was ok. Not great, or horrible, but ok. I would have given it a higher rating if not for the pool. The whole reason we rented this room is so that our kids could go swimming. We are local, the hotel is about 9 miles from our residence. Ill start with the good aspects. The place was clean, no issues with that. Rooms, corridors, breakfast area all nice and clean. The hotel overall had a decent smell. The second floor smelled like marijuana, although not the hotel's fault the guests chose to partake, I feel they should have done something about it and removed those responsible better quality hotels don't stand for that. I have nothing against it personally but having my 9 year old ask what that funny smell is was not cool. The continental breakfast was decent. The area is small, but they had a small selection of hot food, bagels, muffins, a waffle station, and coffee / juice. I've seen better, but for a place like this is was good. The fitness room was very small had 3 cardio machines and a weight machine. Good for a couple people but not much more. The pool was a DISASTER. Again, the whole reason we rented the room. To be fair I've been a Pool and Spa professional for over 25 years. That being said, I know ill be a little tougher on them but also highly accurate. Their pool is a small plaster pool about 15,000 gallons. As soon as we walked in the room we were blasted by an extremely acrid Chlorine smell. The chemicals in the water were way off. It irritates the eyes almost immediately just walking in, breathing the air was unpleasant. The water was very cloudy. I could tell the chloramines are way out of control. This is due to an extremely large bather load, and little to no maintenance. Although i didn't see the inside of the filter room, I assume they have an automatic chlorination system that is dumping chlorine in to the water consistently. Without proper maintenance of the the other balancing chemicals, chloramines are formed, and are very dangerous to your health. Google Chloramines to get all the details, i wont explain it here. That being said, the water was truly caustic. Against my best judgement i allowed my children, wife and myself to use the pool. Upon entering the first time i came up and immediately my eyes began to burn. I wanted to take my kids out of there but you try telling a seven year old Autistic child who loves swimming and was promised this for being so good that he has to leave. I still regret it though, because he has been sick for the past 3 days, and im 99% sure its from this pool. He swam in it 3 times and little kids have problems not swallowing pool water under the best of circumstances. One of the things that bothered me the most was the fact that the pool was not being used from 11pm to 6am and there was absolutely no improvement in the water quality overnight. I'm betting no one even looked at it during that time. Make no mistake this pool is a public health hazard. I am to blame for using the pool knowing what i know, but I wanted to warn everyone else if you rent this hotel because it has a pool, you better choose another one because its absolutely disgusting. Its not...
Read moreWe live in the same town this hotel is located. The reason we rented the room was due to the fact that there is an in-room jacuzzi. We had stayed at this hotel about 2 months prior, same category room, just on a different floor. This one had a sunken in floor right when you go to get in/get out of the tub, the tub itself looked like it had been repaired (almost like caulk type of material) several times, and regretfully after one use we decided to not even bother using it again during our stay, For almost $200 a night, you would think they would update the facilities in the room and/or reduce the price. Like I said, the other room on the different floor was NOT the same as far as the flooring and poorly maintained tub.
When I first checked in, the first thing the desk attendant told me was that I was lucky to have gotten this room, as it would be the last time local residents living in Manchester would be able to pay the same price as would someone who lived in any other city/state. That is CRAZY! I am not one to post reviews but this just happened to hit my inbox literally right before I am about to check into another hotel nearby with an in room jacuzzi. I will not be taking my business here any longer unfortunately, and the icing on the cake was the fact that I would have to pay more to stay there just because I live in in Manchester. He refused to give me an explanation, which frustrated me even more. Best of luck to you folks! You should probably have someone fix that dangerous floor and...
Read moreWe used points for 1 night and paid for the separate confirmation for the rest of our stay. We asked for late check in and mentioned for upgrade since we are Platinum members. I specifically called because the Best Western Hotel that was my first choice was under rehab so customer service canceled the reservation. We had no control over that reservation. We didn’t ask for the cancellation. |I called this hotel & asked how far was the hotel from East Haddam- Goodspeed Opera House. This was before I made the reservation and website & front desk manager- Maria told me only a few miles. I looked and saw the site indicated-15 miles. Well, it was 30+ miles in the middle of nowhere. |We weren’t upgraded till the 2nd night because we then decided not to change rooms because we weren’t going to spend many hours in the room. |Front desk manager, Maria, was unprofessional and sent me an email that told me to go somewhere else if we were ever in the area again. |I asked to speak with the General Manager but Maria never informed him. I suppose that they are hoping we forget her rudeness. |Housekeeping was wonderful. |The breakfast was not kept hot. They didn’t have items that a Best Western Hotel Plus always have. Rotten bananas are in a basket near the toaster. |This is not what I expected from a higher end Best Western. |And this trip was a celebration of our 50th wedding...
