We absolutely loved this campground! We stayed at Frontier Town a few months ago but there a few things we did not like. The main issue we had was all of the golf cart traffic and the amount of teens riding around with music up loud. Since Fort Whaley is affiliated with Frontier Town we figured we would give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised when we got there. By looking at the campground map you could clearly see that it was a smaller campground, but it was perfect and exactly what we were looking for. Although we only have a pop-up we usually book full hookup sites. When we pulled up to our site I was excited to see that had a concrete pad. I will admit, the sites are a little close to one another, but it wasn't really an issue with us since we were so small compared to the big campers around us. We did have an issue with a regular driving though our site with their golf cart, but the office handled that immediately and there were no issues after. The only negative thing about our site, but we were kind of expecting, was the morning sun. This is obviously not something that can be prevented nor would it deter us from booking the site again, but next time we will be more prepared. One of our concerns before we got there was the campground only had 1 bath house. It ended up not being an issue at all. I was shocked they weren't crowded and were very clean. We were talking to one of the cleaning ladies and she said that they clean the bath houses every 2 hours and it showed. I also want to add that the staff is amazing. They are quick to help you and answer all questions you may have. The campground does have a lot to offer but because it was so hot we only took advantage of the putt putt course (at night) that was included in the stay. Unfortunately because of the heat we didn't even want to go swimming or go to the water park at Frontier Town. They do have shuttles that run non stop which is nice so you don't have to worry about parking anywhere. Location- At Frontier you are about 10-15 mins (without traffic) from OC. At Fort Whaley it is about 25 mins or a little more away from there. However I will say this, the extra driving time was definitely worth it for us. Hopefully I haven't lost you by now, but the biggest issue we had at Frontier Town was the golf carts and the amount of noise. We did not have that here and because of that alone we will be back. We look forward to next season there and enjoying it even more!

We stayed in cabin 102 and I have bedbug bites on my face and hands. Disgusting, horrible and intensely itchy. We noticed the built in double bed had been replaced by a flimsy metal frame with thin mattress covered in very thin torn cover. Clearly there were issues. Wish we had just left then. The front desk person in duty on Monday when we checked in was very rude. We arrived two hours early after being told the cabin was ready but she informed us the room wasn’t cleaned and to return at 3. We returned at 3, waited in line for other guests to be taken care of and once it was our turn, the room still wasn’t ready. We were not able to access our room until 4pm. The cabins were near a bathhouse but the dumpsters near by were unbearably smelly. The stench worsened over our stay as the garbage accumulated, all doors tops and sides open swarming with flies. The playground is nearby and I really don’t know how parents and kids used it as the week wore on. I’m can’t believe I paid over 500$ for 3 nights in a cabin to get bedbug bites all over my face and hands. Completely disgusting. Ruined vacation. We will never be back after many years of enjoying both frontier town and fort whaley. We hadn’t been back since the takeover from the new company. Rude. Smelly. Bedbug infested. Expensive.

Stayed at this campground in Whaleyville on Friday 4/14 to Sunday 4/16. Never again. There was a large group staying in most of cabins near our campsite, and they were so loud, rude, and obnoxious. Music was blasting, people were yelling at each other, and one guy deliberately shined the headlights on his Escalade into the fifth wheel across from him, because the owner of the fifth wheel asked him to turn the music down. This went on the entire time we were there. They were deliberately antagonizing campers near them. On Sunday they were breaking glass in the roadway and taking chairs out of their cabins and smashing them. The sheriff's department showed up twice on Friday, once on Saturday, and once on Sunday. I'm not talking a few cop cars, I'm talking 7, 8, 9 cop cars having to come to the campground because of these people. What did Sun Outdoors do to protect the peace and safety of the other campers? NOTHING! These people should have been kicked out from the first incident, but Sun Outdoors seems to be more concerned about not hurting their feelings than the rest of the campers who had to be exposed to this! I will NOT be returning!!! RESPONSE TO OWNER: Check your Facebook page

It was terrible place was terrible I've never seen so many flies in one place. The office people have absolutely 0 clue. Booked my spot over 7 months ago. Said I could bring pets. When we got there I walked into office, there was 3 people behind counter. Explained I was checking in. They looked at me and nodded. Sat there for 5 minutes as they did whatever. Said again do I need to check in? No answer. Said it again a little louder. One says just a sec. Ok. She walks away. Never came back. After 5 more minutes go to another person saying I am checking in. She said just a sec. Ok. Waited another 5 minutes. Looked at last person, looks me dead in the FACE says, do you need to check in? Yes. Gave my name. She then takes my car tag, a map and a list of events places on counter slides to me and says you're all set and walked away. That's the first 30-35 minutes. Just to check in. Get to my lot. The lot is half the size on my camper. It was between 2 trees as if I would be sleeping on a hammock between the 2. Called the front desk. Was placed on hold 3 times before I just walked up there. No lie, walked in the girl said just a moment. My cell phone rings. I answer, she proceeds to introduce herself and I said look up, I'm right in front of you. She gives me 3 more sites to check out. I check the closest one. It's 6 times bigger, we take it. We set up and. 5 minutes later after set up. I received a phone call I'm told via phone call ft whaley doesn't allow pets, only 1 dog. Wife threw a fit. Our file and reservation notes stated manager approved. Manager stated fine, okay it was a different Manger before the new grounds manager took over in January. For the next 3.5 days manager drove by every 5 minutes and harrassed my wife about pets. To the point she broke down and cried saying she can'thandle it anymore she was bring harrassed to the point It was beyond disgusting. He said employees were complaining? That was a lie. Next morning said he didn't want us there. Flat out Told my wife go to the office I'll refund the rest of the week if you leave now! Go to Castaway Cove, please. I called them. They a were awesome, friendly, clean, manager Was awesome. Came out of office to welcome us and came out to see pets. Mind you both places same owners. I'll never go to Ft Whaley again. It's a dump. The bathrooms smell like mold, the game room has 4 games 3 don't work. The pool was meh for the money, the mini golf was like someone's overgrown backyard. Was a terrible, overpriced experience. And my wife was harrassed. I do not use that term lightly. every. single. day. Also when they refunded us the office screwed that up too. 35 minutes to get our money back because no one knew how to process. Campground is a joke. Like it's run by 15 year Olds. Got stuck paying from sun to Wed. Terrible place. Save your money. Go to Castaway beyond better experience, and class of people. The response from management you see below was a lie. We had been approved the pigs were also the size of average begal. There is no smell to these animals unlike the dogs next to us at the campground that crapped everywhere. The people who work there said the manager was new. He'd only been there 6 Months. Call it what you want he harrassed us and my wife and family. I have been in retail management for 22 years. If I'd ever treated any customer the way he treated us id never continue what I was doing. Also the grounds people who drive their golf carts around said we had 0 complaints and he's a liar. Manager went Rogue. George you ruined it for us never to return. I'll make sure EVERY SINGLE PERSON I EVER RUN INTO KNOWS. I have 0 reason to lie. He ruined half...

I tried to give sun outdoors every opportunity to respond to me before this review. I stopped by the office , i called several times and no manager would answer , show up, call back or respond. We arrived and our cabin was nice. However, our screen door was broken. The very nice repair crew immediately came and helped fix our screens promptly and kindly. A few days into our stay the toilet stopped flushing and backed up up into the bathroom. While moving the garbage out and looking for the plunger we found DRIED BLOOD in the bathroom which i reposrted with this incident . I immediately tried fixing the toilet myself, finding a plunger but it was not working. A woman showed up who got on the phone with somebody and told her to flush the toilet. I explained I didn't think that that was a good idea that it was going to go all over the place... She then proceeded to ask me if I had gloves or cleaning equipment. I am not sure but if this is the person coming to fix our toilet, shouldn't they have their own? As I did not have gloves, I ran around trying to find something for this woman like plastic bags which I gave her. A man on her phone explained how to fix the ball and flush and plunge. Which she did and finally got the toilet to flush. But there was a mess and a strong smell of sewage was wafting in our cabin. She then explained that this has been happening previously. I was happy that it got fixed. However, the next few conversations were unbelievable. She asked us if we had stuff to clean the mess. I looked at her and said what do you mean we have to clean this? She said she would be right back and left us with this mess not knowing what to expect. She arrived back with supplies and blatantly told us these exact words ...boss lady says you have to clean your own shit. Yep she said that word. I could not believe my ears. I calmly said I'm sorry. Are you kidding right now? So I guess I'm going to also be cleaning the dried blood that we just found as well because nobody decided to move the garbage pail to clean underneath of it before we came in for a vacation week ....She said no she was not kidding and dropped the buckets, the mop and cleaning supplies and walked out. I was so mad and just started cleaning. None of the supplies were labeled and some of the cleaning supplies were caustic and smoked like acid. I told everyone in our cabin family and friends to get out and open the windows. I later went back in, mopped, cleaned etc. i called and messaged to speak to a manager and nothing. I stopped by at check out and they could NOT believe that happened and still NO MANAGEMENT RESPONSE. I have called twice. NO MANAGEMENT RESPONSE. I say DO NOT STAY HERE. MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE and the sanitation situation...

We had a great time at this Campground. The facilities are clean and well maintained and all of the staff was very accommodating.

We loved riding the bus to the water park (which is free) but we chose to drive to Assateague because they only drop off and pick up at the visitors center and the distance from there to the beach was a little far. Plus there was so many fun places to see on the island that we would not have done if we didn't drive ourselves, crabfishing and clamdigging can be done on the bay side, but it's a little far to walk with small children.

The campground has enough to keep you busy and most of it was surprisingly free. There are pedal boats and canoes that you can take out on the lake, which you can also fish in. My son had the most fun with just a solo cup scooping up minnows, tadpoles and these crazy jumping shrimp (which startled the hell out of me when he proudly brought the cup over for me to inspect his catch lol). There is a nice pool and a very nice mini golf course that we played almost every night because it was a fun thing to do after dark and before bed. The daytime activities for kids were fun as well and my son even "set the alarm" so he wouldn't miss out on tie dyeing a t-shirt. They also have a variety of sporting goods to borrow at the store, horseshoes, basketballs, and whiffle ball sets to name a few. The playgrounds were nice and they also have a small skateboard\BMX ramp area, as well as a very cute dog park with their own playground equipment.

As with any campground store, things are a bit pricey but I was surprised to find out that their price on a container of Old Bay seasoning was actually cheaper than the crab shack where we bought a bushel of crabs for dinner. I had intended to stop at a dollar general but forgot and decided to check the camp store before going back out and they were a few dollars cheaper than the crab shack and even though I don't know how much it would have been at a different store, I was happy to not have to go anywhere else. Ice is also comparible to Walmart or other convenience stores. However, if you intend to have a campfire, find a cheaper place along the road because you're going to pay about $1.25 per log at the camp store.

Overall, we had a great time at this campground and the rates were very reasonable compared to other places nearby. We would love to camp on Assateague someday but, like Burning Man, you have to be prepared to camp on sand in full sun and put up with wild animals raiding your camp looking for food, lol. Someday maybe, but I would definitely be interested in coming back to...
