Let me begin by saying that I am not a picky person at all. I've traveled to many locations and stayed at many hotels. I always make every effort to stay with a Choice hotel chain. A good few years back I traveled to Reading many times and quite often stayed at this hotel. It was very beautiful and well kept.
I was getting married on September 13th of this year (2014) and all of our guests were from out of town. I booked a block of rooms here for the weekend for all my guests. When I first began my planning I had some issues with the hotel personnel. A few of them were nothing but rude, however, I began working with a guy named David who was really nice and very accommodating.
I should have checked out the place and even read the reviews but I didn't even think this place would have changed much especially with it being a part of the Choice Hotel chain. I began to read the reviews and started to worry. My family and guests don't expect much from a hotel especially at the price we were quoted. I told David, who is the manager, that I was starting to worry. I wanted to be sure the rooms would be clean for my guests. He assured me that he just took over the hotel recently and has done some upgrades but once people read the bad reviews they look for these things.... once you have a negative reputation in the eye of the public, you can't get away from it. He assured me that the reviews were very exaggerated and the hotel was nothing like what was stated.
Well on Friday, my aunt was the first to arrive. She reserved one room with two double beds for four adults. They charged her for two rooms because they only permit two adults in a room but they did not give her two rooms. She went into the room, and the first thing she spotted was a mouse in the room. There were three spiders on the walls, the doors did not lock and the light above the mirror did not work. There was also dirt and grime all over the windowsills. They killed the spider and took it to the front desk, complaining about all the things wrong with the room. They refused to change her room or give her a refund.
She called me and I immediately was in search of a new hotel for my guests. I had only minutes to spare before other guests would be checking in. The next to arrive was my uncle. He requested to see the rooms before paying with a credit card. The front desk personnel, who said he was the manager, became very rude with my uncle and told him there was no way he was going to see a room. He stated that they gave me a good rate.... $60...... and they got what they paid for. When my uncle insisted to see the room before checking in, they kicked him out of the hotel.
I would definitely stay away from this hotel and avoid it at all costs. The Days Inn on Woodland Rd was very accommodating and their nightly rate was only $15 more than the "discounted" rate the Quality Inn was providing.
I am a member of the Choice Privileges program with a very high standing. I contacted them about this and they should be ashamed to represent this hotel as a part of their chain. I do not look for this hotel to remain a Quality...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to take an impromptu trip to Reading for a night. We chose this hotel because it was pet friendly and inexpensive.
The outside of the hotel is a run down and needs some work. The two employees we came across working at the front desk were really friendly. We asked about a military discount. They did have one. Instead of the discount, the woman waved the pet fee of $15, which she stated was more. She assigned us a room and gave us a key. We went to our room and opened the door. There was stuff everywhere. It was someone else’s personal belongings. We went back to the front desk and reported the issue. The worker spoke to someone we assumed was the owner. Another worker seemed to have moved someone to another room and not changed it in the computer.
She gave us another room, which was supposed to be an upgrade. The following were issues we found in our room. There were 5 lights on the wall. Three lights had no shades. Just bare light bulbs. One didn’t even have a lightbulb. Another had one of those ugly coiled light bulbs. The shades that were there, were in poor condition. One light was secured to the wall crookedly. One was loose and leaned to the side. The “headboard “ had multiple chips out of it. The wall at the head of the bed was a dark color with multiple chips. The other walls were painted an ecru color that was glossy. The walls weren’t painted to the ceiling. There was a border left painted in a similar flat color. It was obviously just not painted to the ceiling, as there was no straight border line. The bath tub was discolored. The caulk job was messy and also discolored. The room was clean.
There was no iron or ironing board in the room. There was an obvious rack for one. There was no coffee maker in the room. There was coffee available in the lobby. There was a small refrigerator and microwave in the room. They were in good condition, clean, and worked well. There is a free continental breakfast in the morning. They had mini spice muffins that were not very fresh or tasty. They appeared to have two cereals. My husband said they had waffles.
There is a restaurant or club adjacent to the hotel. You could here the loud music outside and in the hotel. It was faint in our room and didn’t disturb us. The parking lot was a disaster in the morning. Lots of trash. At the edge of the parking lot were multiple vehicles, one lift truck, that had appeared to not be moved for sometime. The “grassy” area off the parking lot was filled with trash.
There was an empty building beside the hotel. There was a sign on it that said “the Silo”. We looked it up online. It had been a rock club that has been closed for at...
Read moreOn 9/6, my mother and I stayed at this hotel. I've stayed in other Quality Inn's and they've been a little run down, but they've been clean and the staff professional. With that in mind I cashed in my points for this hotel stay! I wish I could get them back because it was not a pleasant experience. When we arrived we were greated by a woman wearing a disney sweatjacket, t-shirt and jeans. After getting checked in we went up to the room. The smell hit us immediately. It smelled like mold and cigarettes. The safety latch on the door was completely broken. There were drink rings on the table, cigarette burns in the bedspread, an ashtray on the tv. Everything felt musty and dank. The moldy smell was coming from the bathroom where the shower curtain rod was just barely attached to the wall due to water damage. I went back downstairs to see if we could get a different room. The woman was sitting in the lobby playing on an tablet. She didn't rise to greet me or even look up when I stood in front of her. I grabbed her attention and told her the issues. She reluctantly got up to find us a different room. We moved to a new room down the hall that was moderately better. The bathroom didn't smell like mold, but it didn't exactly smell clean either. My mother and I shrugged and said "it's only one night--and it's free", but we knew we couldn't just hang out there. We headed out and observed, what I can only assume to be a manager sitting in the lobby, also on a tablet, refusing to get up and help the woman who was having an issue with the computer. He said, "You've been here long enough, you should be able to figure it out. I'm not getting up."--What kind of management staff is that?! The next day we discovered poop or food next to the fridge on the carpeted floor. Thank goodness we were cautious and wore shoes whenever walking on the carpet--it didn't look clean and obviously wasn't! We couldn't get out of there fast enough on 9/7. I usually book with choice hotels because they have a decent continental breakfast. I can't even say that about this one. The OJ was super sweet, the apple juice watered down. There was one egg round, but it was all dried up and the sausage was white--like it wasn't fully cooked. There was a hair in with the donuts. Needless to say, my mother and I couldn't wait to get out of there! I would also like to say that this hotel was listed as being pet friendly--but there was a sign at the front desk saying "no pets allowed". This would have totally irked me if I'd brought a pet, which I'd considered doing. I'm glad now that I didn't. I gave this hotel one star because you have to give at least one star to...
