Beautiful setting, but disappointing experience overall
We were really excited to stay at 320 Ranch and had high hopes given the stunning Montana setting. While the scenery is beautiful and the breakfast was solid (with very kind waitstaff), our experience unfortunately fell short in many ways.
The biggest issue was mouse droppings on our pillow — a pretty alarming discovery — and when we brought it up, no one seemed to take it seriously or even care. Thankfully it happened on our last night there, but there were other issues too.
The cabins are not rodent-proofed, and there’s no communication about that ahead of time. There are visible holes in the floor and under the doors that literally lead right to the outdoors (which we only noticed after finding the mouse droppings). There’s also no housekeeping service, which wouldn’t have been a big deal if the cabins felt better maintained.
On top of that, the cabin walls are extremely thin — you can hear just about everything from your neighbors. Not ideal if you're looking for a peaceful or private stay.
Everything on the ranch comes with an upcharge — even something as small as getting more coffee for your cabin. And while we knew activities might cost extra, it felt like there wasn’t much included in the base experience.
The manager of McGill’s restaurant was noticeably unfriendly, which stood out especially given how kind the waitstaff was elsewhere on the property.
Also worth noting: the ranch is not very kid-friendly. The main "hangout" area near the teepee and firepit is surrounded by car traffic and lacks safe or ample seating. If you’re hoping for that cozy, family-friendly Western atmosphere, it falls short.
Lastly, everything is very spread out — depending on where you're staying, expect a 10–15 minute walk or be prepared to drive around the property regularly.
Unless you’re planning to leave the ranch during the day and just use it as a place to sleep, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. This is not the place to stay if you’re hoping to enjoy time on property — the experience just isn’t built for that.
Overall, the ranch looks great in photos and has a lot of untapped potential, but the lack of hospitality, cleanliness concerns, thin walls, and constant nickel-and-diming really took away from what could’ve been a relaxing and memorable stay.
If you're just passing through, this may still be a fine spot for a night or two — as long as you know...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 days at the beginning of September and had a great time. Our cabin was cute, clean, and the beds were comfortable; all the staff was friendly. We didn’t eat at the restaurant for any sit down meals but the continental breakfast was great — really loved that they had different food options every morning instead of just serving the same thing every day! It felt like a rugged, authentic ranch experience, which was what we wanted. The scenery in the valley is beautiful. Because we weren’t there in the summer not as many of their activities were running— that was the only thing I didn’t love. Still was fun to walk around the ranch, practice roping out on the lawn by the main buildings, and enjoy the scenery and ambiance. The ranch isn’t too far from Big Sky and some other restaurants in the area so there were plenty of great options to eat within a 20 minute drive. ||We also did a horseback ride and had an awesome time on that too— the horses were great and the wranglers were amazing!! We’ve been on a few guided horseback rides before but are by no means experienced riders, but we felt very safe the whole time. Our wrangler Jensen took a group of five of us out for their two hour trail ride and was really fantastic. She constantly checked in on us to make sure we felt safe/comfortable, told us all about the herd and the ranch, and took great pictures of us. The horses were great and knew exactly what to do (even if we occasionally had to urge them on when they stopped for snack breaks!), and from the way the wranglers spoke about them you could tell they are very well cared for. The scenery was beautiful and we got to go through a mix of forest and meadows with views of the mountains rising around us.|| We really loved this place and would recommend it if you’re looking for that more authentic ranch experience! Even if you’re not staying here, I would recommend coming for the horseback riding if you’re...
