Excellent experience! Resort owners and employees were very friendly and helpful. Rented their largest house boat for 3 nights. Each night we tied up to a new camp with a firepit. Each place was unique and offered trails and places to explore. The lake is 20 miles long, but not too wide (you could see land on both sides at all times). Most of it is protected land, so few houses and resorts. This made the lake quiet and peaceful. It offered many different places to camp, allowing us to find the level of privacy we liked. The few houses and resorts seemed to be around our resort on one end, so the farther we went, the quieter it was. Our first night we started far out on the lake on a small island with a rope swing. The second night we stayed at a sandy beach on a peninsula that had at least five trails to explore. The third and last night was on another island with the easiest access to and from the boat. When first faced with driving the boat, we all got a little nervous, so an employee backed it out for us and had another employee pick him up just off shore. From there we took over. We soon found a rhythm with me and my daughter driving it in open water and her boyfriend docking it and backing it out. Docking could be stressful, but we got the hang of it quickly. We brought two kayaks with us so people could go off and explore areas we couldn't in the houseboat. The staterooms with queen bunk beds were tiny and the marine toilets are not fun (they never are), but all doable for the experience. It was a great way to go to scenic, out of the way campsites without actually having to camp-LOL! We had all the household items we needed to cook meals and feel like it was a little like home. And waking up to the sun rising over the lake from the window in your queen bunk was awesome! The wine was complimentary from the resort and was a nice little treat to share. Overall, an absolute great experience we would do again-probably...

I could say so many wonderful things about our time at Timber Bay. We rented a houseboat over Fourth of July weekend and things could not have gone smoother. Checking in we were greeted by Janet (one of the owners) who was extremely knowledgeable and very, very friendly and then Drew (the other owner) who was equally as accommodating, he came in to give us a brief overview of the lake and boat operations. As someone who has never driven a houseboat before I felt more than prepared after speaking with him.

The staff was also so friendly and helpful. They helped us load up the boat and within 40 minutes of arriving we were heading out onto the lake.

THE LAKE! It is absolutely gorgeous and very easy to navigate. Its rather large so you can easily find a quite and secluded area; with many campsites to choose from. The stars were beautiful at night and while the bugs do get a bit intense, they die out rather quickly once the sun has fully set. The fishing was fabulous, the water was perfect for swimming, and the views stunning. Would definitely recommend renting some kayaks they have available as well!

At one point we did run out of firewood, but all we had to do was call the resort and they brought out some more bundles for us, along with some ice we requested as well. Very timely delivery too!

Checking out was a breeze. We unloaded, they did a quick inspection of the boat and then we were on our way home... far too soon if you ask me. I could say so much more about our experience at Timber Bay but we had a fabulous time and I can confidently say we will be coming back for more houseboating adventures! Thank you again for such a wonderful and...

My husband and I just stayed in Houseboat #10 for 4 nights (9/13/19 to 9/17/19. Originally our trip was booked for July for us and our six kids, due to unforeseen events we had to cancel that trip. Ron and Beth were great to work with and allowed us to rebook the houseboat for another time. It didn’t work to take our kids with us this time, but it was the perfect getaway for the two of us. So instead we celebrated our Wedding anniversary early (9/22) and my husbands birthday (9/17). Beth was amazing during our check in and showed us some of her favorite campsites on the lake. We tried out most of her recommendations and loved how unique each one was, it’s hard to pick a favorite as they each were different.||The boat was very well stocked with plate, cups, silverware, pots/pans and cooking utensils. The gentlemen from the boathouse helped us unload our truck and get everything onto our boat were also great. I didn’t catch their names, but the main one who helped us Friday met us at the dock Tuesday morning when we came back. He walked us through how to run the boat and everything on it. The young man who stopped out on Sunday during a supply run was very helpful and polite. He suggested two amazing camp sites to us for our last two nights.||We didn’t catch many fish, but we still had a great time relaxing and refreshing ourselves. We did catch some amazing sunrises and sunsets, along with a few naps in our hammock. We would highly recommend Timber Bay Lodge and Houseboats to anyone looking for a unique vacation. We hope to make it back again!||Thank you, Ron, Beth and staff for making our vacation...

We stayed four nights in a three bedroom cabin. PROS: The location is awesome. Right on Birch Lake for the fishers in our group. My daughter and I enjoyed the free bikes they have available in many sizes. The paved bike path is extensive. We took bikes to the Babbitt library, over to a neighboring beach/playground, and into town to the Babbitt playground. It's an easy 20 min drive up to Ely. The staff were very accommodating. We weren't aware we had to bring our own towels, but they helped us out. We met Beth, the owner, and had a lovely conversation. The kids liked the playground. Boat rental was easy. Bait available to purchase right on site. Free kayaks and canoes were fun. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and tools. Even a griddle. We brought our own instant pot and blender. The cabin was clean and the heater/ac worked very well. Caught a nice northern right off the dock! All in all, a great trip. CONS: I could feel a spring in my mattress under my back. I was in the "camping" mindset and it didn't bother me much. The other beds were good. It was hard to prepare meals for six in the kitchen of that cabin with very very little counter space. But we managed! I wish the kitchen would've had a peeler. No deal breakers. I would come back! Thank you!

We are currently on a Timber Bay houseboat on Birch Lake. We rented it for 1 week and we have 1 day left. 😔 The new owners Drew and Janet took over this year. The service is still outstanding!! Hag helped us load our coolers and fishin supplies on the boat and went over all of the safety info and how everything works. Twice per week the supply boat comes to check on you, and brings bait, ice, firewood, TP, etc if you need it. If you need anything other than the basics, just call the night before the re-supply day and they'll do their best to get it to you. They also take any garbage or recycling off the boat. FYI. Hag has some great advice and stories when he does the supply runs! We have been at a different campsite each night and have not had a bad one yet. Fishing hasn't been great this week but the scenery made up for it. We saw swans and loons, both with babies. We did manage to catch enough fish for a good meal. The lake map is great for marked buoys, finding campsites and avoiding rocks. All of the sites that we've been to have fire rings if you want a fire. The site that we're at right now is a small island and we have it all to ourselves!! We'll definitely be back!!
